Canyon is mediocre but put me in the group that thinks they should just get rid of the anthems. Growing up I always loved when the Flames played another Canadian team so I only had to sit through one of them.

Standing up to prove your patriotism before a sporting event may have been cool during the cold war but is unnecessary now. Just drop the puck already and save the anthems for international games or special events like games on Nov 11th.

One of the requirements for anthem singers should be tempo. Get that thing movin, man! Nothing worse than a slow drawn out anthem.

One of the things I liked about Heather was that she was just a nice school teacher who grew up in Calgary, raised in Calgary, works in Calgary, knows Calgary, and loves Calgary.

I don't like nor dislike George Canyon (mostly just nothing him), but I'd like to see someone closer to a Calgary plebeian sing the anthems rather than going the celebrity route. There just doesn't feel like there's any connection there.

Honestly, I would bet 99% of the people who hate Canyon's anthem singing do so only because they hate country, and therefore would hate literally anyone they perceive as a country artist, no matter how they sung the Anthem.

IMSNHO, he does the anthems quite well. And I hate country. Glad he's back.

I just think he needs to lose the music and sing it alone. The music ruins it IMO.

At least the ushers don't let anyone move during the anthems so the first few minutes of every game are ruined for everyone sitting on the aisles going up to the 3rd level.

Honestly, this is my point. I think he sings the anthem straight, and perfectly fine. I think you believe he sings the anthem like that because you expect a country artist to do so.

There's a bit of country sound to it but not very much - he's not Yoakumming or anything.

I'm in the "no anthem" camp. But if they have to I'd like to see a rotating lineup of kids.

Country is the genre I listen to more than any other.

If I wanted a fake cowboy with a fake southern drawl singing our anthem, my vote would be for Sheriff Rick Grimes, played by English actor Andrew Lincoln.

Garth Brooks is an awesome country singer, so he became a country artist. Ever see that guy off stage? Not even remotely country.

The guy sings it how he sings. People get too upset about the whole western stereotype, even though it's part of our Heritage and Culture.

i think anthems before games are nice but why do we need a singer?

The entire World Cup has been just anthem music and it's great!
