They won't move Skinner.
They are also probably very interested in dumping a bad contract like Gleason (not that bad) or Ruutu (really bad) as well.
Their best prospect outside of Lindholm and Murphy is probably Brock McGinn, who is absolutely tearing up the OHL right now

Carolina doesn't really have much that id want straight up for Backlund (unless they made offers that they likely wont, 1st, Murphy, etc)

They also are in IR so money has to be coming back. They dont have much on the farm so getting a young c appeals to them (thin behind staal bros). Could be tough to make a deal.

It would be cool if Backlund were a smaller piece of a big deal that brought us something like Skinner. We've got a decent pool of young talent now and some expendable assets on our roster that could put up points for them right away. Seen enough smaller, peripheral deals that don't really do much of anything for either side. Would be cool if Feaster/Burke managed to pull off something that could actually impact the team (like a Skinner).

Skinner has concussion issues which would make his acquisition risky especially if we are giving up quality assets. Would stay clear of him as concussions affect a players game.
Too many ntcs on Carolina. Can't see Gleason or Ruutu waiving to come here so unlikely we can take a cap dump off their hands to make it a hands down win for us.
Hear where you are going with the Skinner idea but Rutherford is too savvy a gm to give up a quality asset for peanuts.

Skinner?
Maybe if Rutherford has had a recent head injury he does Backlund and Baertschi for Skinner. Otherwise can't see them trading a 21 year old that has put up the points he has for anything on our roster other than Monahan.

^If Sven was part of a package for Skinner I bet it could get done.
I don't want or expect it however..

Skinner is 21. He has averaged 27 goals per 82 games played. He has 141 points in 201 games.
Backlund and Sven would not be close to getting it done, IMO.

Tlusty is 25 which fits the age bracket you mention. There is talk that we would have to trade for another team's Backlund. Tlusty it could be argued is Carolina's Backlund. He does play RW as well so maybe a deal for him backfills an organizational need. Perhaps a trade with prospects involved could put a deal in our favor.
Believe these are the type of offers we are going to get for Backlund, anything higher expectation wise and you are going to be disappointed.

Tlusty was probably the player offered and who the Flames turned down. Don't trade Backlund unless they are taking advantage of the cap space. I want a cap dump/flames trade win

What if Carolina is the only team interested? Might not be an opportunity to take advantage of cap space here if the player is not attractive to teams who need to dump cap. The alternative is to have a pissed off Backlund on the fourth line doing nothing to increase his value, in which case he walks for nothing next year.

Backlund seems to be taking the rumors in stride and doing what he can to improve his situation based on the coach's feddback. I don't get the sense he's pissed off or sulking. And Backlund is still under contract next year, and an RFA when his contract. He won't walk for free I'm sure.

Backlund is still RFA next year and no need totaled the one garbage offer from the canes. I want not part of Tlusty on the Flames. Flames reportedly have a few teams kicking tires and have no reason to trade Backs unless they get the offer they want.
I think it is too early to give up on Backs but if they are looking at using him + cap space to upgrade I am all for it

Have to wonder of the talk about 'multiple' teams being interested in Backlund is a controlled leak by Calgary to get Carolina to up their offer.

Backlund for Erat + 2014 1st
-They want a player who will compete and one who's young
-They are able to get rid of Erat and his contract.
-Backlund would fetch a second but it's compensation for taking on a guy who isn't pulling his weight and not playing his contract. (Capitals will make the play offs so a later pick)
-After shedding off players like Cammy, Stajan, O'Brien... Erats contract may help us reach the cap floor.

Are people seriously suggesting Carolina would move Jeff Skinner for Mikael Backlund...? Come on, Skinner isn't going anywhere. The offer was more realistically a 3rd rounder. I don't think Backlund is worth as much as some of you think.

I like it. Flames may have to take a bad contract to make this happen but it makes sense.
