I hope the Flames tank enough to get a top notch pick. As much as I enjoy watching the Oilers beat the Flames, I did not enjoy the beat down last night. That is not my kind of hockey. I hope the battle of Alberta will rise up to the good old days where both teams are competitive enough to give each other a great battle throughout the season.
However, I hope the Flames do not get Seth Jones, the beast will paste our forwards to the boards each time they come down the wing.
I hope Feaster can get a handsoff approach from owners and let management run the team with astute people possessing hockey knowledge. The owners are good businessmen but not really hockey people.

In previous years a any non-playoff team had the opportunity to win the draft lottery, but they could only move up a total of four spots.

Yeah, the lottery allowed you to move up 4 spots, making only the bottom 5 teams capable of picking 1st overall if they won the lottery. Which is why 8th place Devils when they won moved up to 4th overall and picked Larsson.
Now there's the same odds to win the lottery but you move up to 1st overall instead of just 4 spots. Giving the lowest ranking team only a 25% chance of keeping the 1st overall instead of 48% in previous years.

Speaking of highly-regarded dmen who I think were a bit overrated...

I think you go forwards with the 1st round picks and go dmen with the rest of the draft. All I know is that the draft will be super exciting.

Kind of pointless, then.

Not really. Regardless of where Calgary is picking, the point is that Jones according to scouts-if they are revealing what they really think-is ranked number one.

I believe in the Jays.

I'd like to see us move up and get Monahan with the 6th or 7th pick if he drops that far.
MacKinnon and Monahan would see the center position sorted for a long time.

So if we finish last the worst pick is 2?

Ok, I looked it up:
La in '95. From 7th to 3rd.
SJ in '98. But Tampa had right to switch picks.
Chi in '99. From 8th to 4th.
NJ in '11. From 8th to 4th.
So 4/18 times a team outside the top 5 won the lottery.
6/18 times the worst team won. Which is contrary to the odds, as it should be 4.5/18.
All this means...who the eff knows?

The odds have stayed the same, just any team can be first overall.
Agreed on the sample size though.

I like how this alludes to the fact you've become tired of the BOA.
Pretty quick to forget that even though that was a blowout against a shell of a team, you've sat in frustrated disappointment at 19 of the last 22 times the Oilers have played the Flames.
I'd give it a few more games before you waltz back here with that attitude.

In terms of organizational depth the Panthers have some good center depth. Goc, Bjugstad, Matthias, Mueller and Howden. Maybe they take McKinnon but a better bet would be them taking Drouin.

As usual, Capt Oblivious, you are trying to read between the lines and as a result, you are completely missing my points.
Certainly not tired of BOA. I do not enjoy blowouts-no matter the team. If you think by waiting a few more games will prove you right, then your attitude needs adjusting. Wake up. The Oilers will be doing the waltzing around the Flames for awhile to come.

Why even post things like this?
Nobody respects your opinion, history hasn't supported your claims in the past and even if you prove to be right this time, your post will accomplish nothing here other than to start a fight and bring down the quality of discussion.
Hate to play mod here but your shtick has gone on long enough. Is it possible for you to complete a constructive post without ruining it by adding a barb at the end designed to provoke people?

And as usual, your lame attempt at gloating hinges solely on things that haven't happened yet.
It's all you do when you come here, and it's as tiresome as it is amusing.

Hey Red, on the contrary, if you read my pasts posts and thread (particularly the Flames should be dumping to get first rounders in a deep draft ummm...in 2011 http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=107964), my correct assessment of Dubnyk and so on, I have been more right than wrong.
Provoking people? I had a user friendly post until capt oblivious stepped into it and now the whole thing is becoming ripe...

Hey, my previous post regarding BOA was quite mellow yellow and very compassionate so much so that I was going to send a rose over...
