After watching the Pens game I had noticed a few things that are a lot different than watching the Flames.
-Iginla played with better players today than he has in his entire career. That Line is going to be deadly, they played better and better as the game went on.
- The Pens play a fast paced game, and Iginla fit in perfectly. Too bad Neal didnt bury on the Iginla feed.
- Pens have a lot of skill, and are a very deep team. Amazing they have won 15 in a row, with Injuries to key guys through out.
- It was an absolute pleasure to be cheering legitimately for a team who is so good. Obviously im a bandwagon fan because I have only started cheering for them since the Iginla deal. I will be watching all the Pens games until Iginla is no longer with them because that was a lot of fun.
-Go Pens go and go Iggy go! Can't say enough how happy I am to see Iginla playing with amazing players. It sure is exciting knowing he will be playing in the playoffs probably for the rest of his career now (Assuming he signs with the Pens).
- If Iginla plays a full season with Pittsburgh next year, you can put money on it he will score 50 goals.

Agreed except for the bolded. Not a chance that he re-signs. the Penguins dont have the cap space. Hes a pure rental.
So enjoy this run while you can.
It would be a cosmic irony if the Pens got bounced in the first round.

If they don't win it I would think that he would re-sign.
Take a one-year deal, cheap and give it another shot

I suppose thats a possibility. It depends on what happens to the team in the meantime.
I cant recall the last time I've watched an NHL season with such a clearly defined, odds-on favourite to win the cup. No guarantees that will still be the case next season.

Malkin yes, but Neal is only as good as he is because of Malkin. He was nothing while Malkin was injured. Put a former Iginla line mate like Camalleri or Huselius with Malkin and they'd be a Neal too

$52.8M committed for next year versus a $64.3M cap - $11.5M available.
Iginla ($7M), Morrow ($4.1M), Cooke ($1.8M), Dupuis ($1.5M), Adams ($675K), Murray ($2.5M), Eaton ($725K) are UFAs. Kennedy ($2M), Jeffrey ($575K), Bortozzo ($525K) are RFAs.
$11.5M available to sign 10 players (8 Fs and 2 D) AND Malkin is in his last year (maybe the same salary over an 8 year deal?).
Even if Iginla accepts a short term deal (2 years) for $4.5M per, that's a tight cap.

They could probably fit Iginla in for next year, but after that it's basically impossible with Malkin, Letang, Kunitz, and Sutter all needing new contracts.

Or, he re-signs with the Flames and we trade him to Pitt again at the deadline.
We could do this for the next 4 years!

I know Morrow is a pure rental, don't think the same for Jarome. I honestly believe they sign Iggy to a two year deal. Probably worth around 4.5 per, maybe even less if Iginla wants to stay really bad. He has made enough money in his career. We don't know what will happen, but I would love to see him play a full season with the Pens to see what kind of damage he could do.

Very very happy for Iginla, I thought he looked great out there and fit right in.
But some absolutely brutal comments in this thread...

Dupuis is only as good as he is because of Crosby. James Neal is an excellent hockey player.

I would love it if we could do that. That would be spectacular.
We rebuilt this franchise by trading Nieuwendyk, we maybe cant do that the same way with Iggy, but if we 'Tkatchuk' him we could get somewhere close.
I'm a huge proponent of that.

Had another look at the super slow mo of Crosby getting whacked in the face.
Either that shot literally knocked the snot out of him, or he's going to be short at least two teeth. I'd put the over/under at 3 teeth.
