Gillies is massive.

The PBP guys have been talking a lot about Jankowski.

How did that go in? I thought for sure Gillies had that one. Tough break.

I'm assuming Vermont is one of schools using the international sheet? Everything looks off.

Yeah, pretty sure it's international ice.

I thought it looks a lot wider too. It is, but only by 5 feet.

According to Wikipedia, the ice at Vermont is 200 x 90, rather than 200 x 85.

Yeah I just found that too, it's crazy that the difference is only 5 feet, it looks much wider.

I think the picture is stretched to 16x9. Everybody looks short and squat. It probably makes the rink look weird as well.

The game's been over for a couple of hours. Providence lost 2-0.

He's so young - I think he just turned 18 a few weeks ago, was supposed to go to the USHL this year but decided to go straight to the NCAA. Most kids this would be their draft year, so he's a year ahead (or behind depending on how you look at it).

Given that he's playing in the NCAA during his 17/18 year old year I think 10-15 goals would be excellent, I think he's on that pace so far with 3 goals. 3 goals is solid and the 1 assist is more a result of the team he's on not being great from what I can gather.

yeah and don't forget that the leap of opposition is huge in his case. Most college guys come out of the USHL or at least high school ... Jankowski played prep school in Quebec. Huge transition for the kid. Waaaaaay too early to be concerned.

His team isn't that great either. Give that team a couple of years and they may be contending. From what I understand he's playing first line whereas Gaudreau, on a deeper team was able to slowly become the go to guy and not face the top lines right out of the gate. Sometimes I may be disappointed in his stats but looking back, I'm just happy he's gone directly into college where he gets a chance to build up his body while getting good competition.

I think Jankowski has slipped down to the 2nd line, which is fine. He needs to become acclimated to the speed, competition and skill levels.

I am glad Jankowski went to college too, but if he had gone to play for the Fighting Saints in the USHL like originally planned I would have been happy too, they have a great coach who would have also been excellent for his development IMO.

As I'll reiterate, this is a huge development season for Jankowski. The points won't matter as much as developing his body, and game, to suit the professional leagues. This is a huge transition for him. Next year will be the year that we'll see what this kid is really made of, as I would expect him to start school weighing in around the 190 mark.

Fair enough - but it would be nice to see analysis against other players that went through the same thing for instance. Can anyone provide that balance? So far lots of justification - I'm just being honest & remembering the "young guns" era and how that turned out

I don't understand what you're getting at here. Your post was "what's the deal?". If you're interested in finding out the difference between Jankowski and some of his peers do your own research, Seinfeld.
