Talk about the courts not getting this one completly wrong.
If someone said I think i'm going to kill my wife or kids, that guy on the corner or a co worker. The immediate reaction would be to say are you crazy.

I believe in most pre meditated murders there is an obvious percentage of insanity involved in planning and even more in actually carrying out that plan. But there is a much bigger percentage of murder that is is simply evil.

This mass murderer is pure evil and should be put in prison, not a asylum where he will just manipulate medical staff.

What's that based upon? Watch Silence of the Lambs recently or something?

I don't know how the system works in Norway, but an insanity finding in the US (and I believe Canada) is basically an indeterminate sentence. The rights afforded can be far fewer as discretion basically falls to medical personnel, there's no mandated hour of outdoor time etc. if it's deemed the person is unfit.

People get too caught up in the 'not guilty' label and forget that the actual sentence is the same, if not worse.

The trial is underway now, and this guy is as cold as ever:

Although both my heart and my brain would want to give this guy the absolute maximum possible, and the victims families deserve as much as possible, it might actually be a better thing if he IS declared insane. It will dampen his message considerably, and that would be the worst punishment to him as well as being the best thing in the long run for Norway.

Actually have two close friends in/from Norway and we've been discussing this a lot lately obviously. It's interesting to hear their viewpoints. My female friend was actually close enough that they felt the blast at her work and stuff flew off the shelves when she was on shift. My male friend lives in a small town up north and is a big news junkie.

There is unfortunately a large conservative population in Norway that believes a lot of what this Breivik guy is trying to spin.

Apparently he "trained" for his actions with Call of Duty.

Not sure how much training is necessary to gun down an island full of unarmed children.

That's the thing.

He is fighting this case only so that they declare him a criminal. The last thing wants is to be declared insane.

Declaring him "sane" enough to stand trial would be a victory for this guy.

I was reading an article yesterday where he stated that he would do it again if he could. Obviously a messed up man!

Sentenced to 21 years in prison... What is that, 3 months per victim?

They better keep him confined,Norway isn't that big...sooner than later someone close to one of the victims will beat his brains in.
