He also likely has a connection with Kylo, and of course Leia (which I would bet Johnson rectifies Abrams admitted mistake of not having her and Chewy grieve together over again. Somehow).
With Han Solo dead where does that leave Chewbecca? So his life debt to Han passed... so why doesn’t he ditch everyone. I mean does anyone besides Han Solo even understand him? With not preventing Han’s death does he feel like he is to blame and he should return to his home world? None of the other characters seem to care about him much as we saw at the end of the last movie. Hey maybe we find out that Rey’s father is actually Chewbecca, that would be an interesting twist!

Life debts don't pass like that, once the person dies that life debt is complete. Now Chewie might feel an obligation to Ren, but we saw in Force Awaken's that this is clearly not the case. His obligation to Rey is a personal choice of whether he sticks with her or not.
Same with Leia.
Frankly that whole grieve with Leia together didn't bug me much, I mean Fin patched up Chewie and Chewie because he comes from a society that seems to see things in balances and debts wanted to make sure that he was patched up.
Plus, there's clearly no wookie sized can on the Falcon, so maybe he had to go and destroy a toilet.

Empire Strikes back when Luke is working with Yoda, Yoda tells him two things.
That basically the dark side of the Force is more seductive because its easier and quicker. He also tells him "Once you start down that dark path it will forever dominate your destiny"
So in Return of the Jedi, Luke fights Vader and clearly flirts with or channels the Dark Side of the Force. In the end he pulls himself back, or does he. Or does the Dark have its tendrils in it.
So flash forward a few decades. Luke is training the new class of Jedi. But the Dark Side is there, basically telling him, that everything that has gone wrong has been the fault of the Jedi. I mean the Sith wouldn't have come to be without the Jedi. The Empire wouldn't have risen if the Jedi would have followed the Force and not participated in the Clone Wars, but instead they decided that they had to directly fight a war against the Sith. The old hippy saying "What if they threw a war and nobody showed up comes to mind"
So Luke is already been tempted by the Dark Side, and has that thought that the Jedi are bad. So . . . .
What if it wasn't Kyle that took down the Academy. What if it was Luke, not out of rage or revenge or hatred, but about fear of training the next generation of Jedi that will cause another destructive war with the Dark. And what if Kylo shows up and see's the destruction but saves Rey, and then like Luke before her, decides to hide her from Skywalker?
Meanwhile Luke goes into exile, right about the time that the First Order is pretty much starting his ascension. Is Luke somehow involved in that ascension . . . more on that later.
So now we flash forward. We know that Ren wants to be bad, but he's constantly being pulled by the Light. So Snoke says "Prove that you're like your grandfather, and go and kill your mother. If we wipe out the Resistance, we can have some form of peace and stability.
So Ren goes out, but he can't kill his mother, I mean he's already feeling guilty about killing Daddy. So he returns to Snoke who basically says "Your a girly man weakling, your not worth the legacy that is being presented to you, so prove yourself and get the girl.
So Ren does, he grabs Rey who left Luke because Luke basically says, "I've seen your power before and it should have scared me. I should have never become a Jedi because that power was mine, so I'm not training you. "
So Ren grabs Rey and takes her to Snoke who "Looks forward to completing your training". And he begins torturing her to turn her.
Meanwhile Fin learns of this and takes Rose and they go to rescue her. But their attempt fails and just as Snoke is about to kill them, Luke steps in with his Light saber humming and shows why he's so powerful.
He engages Snoke, but in a war of words, and Snoke basically says, "The last two Jedi are here, lets be done with this and bring peace and stability and no more force battles to the galaxy".
Ren not completely dark, grabs Rey and they make a harrowing escape and the movie ends with Rey and Ren standing in a window of an escaping Resistance ship. And we go back to Snoke and Luke talking about having patience because the Jedi will come for them looking for revenge.
So the last two questions are
Who is Snoke. Here's what we've been told, Snoke is ancient, comes from unknown space and is extremely powerful in the Dark Side of the Force. So what if Snoke is the last son of Mortis. One of the great beings that exemplified the Darks Side. I know we saw Anakin kill him at the end of his character arc, but is anyone really dead in Star Wars. Plus it would explain how Snoke knew Anakin and saw the Empire rise.
The second question is, who is Rey? A child of Kenobi, or a Child of Solo, or a child of Skywalker, or a re-incarnation Force Vergence.
What if Rey is a continuation of the prophesy to bring balance to the Force. Anakin clearly didn't do that as we have a super powered dark side sexy beast walking around, so what if in that failure, Anakin is bought back by the Force in the form of another Vergence in the Force?
Anyways, that's my crazed theory and its more then likely wrong. But what if the big twist is bigger and more mindblowing then I am your father, and its that Luke serves the dark Side of the force?

After hanging with Solo for so long, Chewie only knows the likes of Luke and Leia and has grown close to them. Makes sense that he would hang around with the folks that he has grown to love, or other people that he has become familiar with. He doesn't really have anywhere that he specifically belongs anymore.

How can the Star Wars Holiday Special still be be considered canon? I thought a lot of things came off the canon list, plus the fact that Lucas disowned that train wreck.

But what really makes it Canon is that Lumpy makes an appearance in the Aftermath books in the third one when Chewie saves his son Lumpawaroo or Lumpy for short. You know the creepy little wookie from the Christmas special, which took place on the planet Kasshyyk which was introduced in the Christmas Special. Just think somewhere in the GFFA we still have Chewies dad watching some disco song in Virtual reality while doing this.
Basically Chewies family from that special is Canon, the planet is canon and Bobba Fett is Canon, the rest is Canon too, just that none of the other characters were expanded on.

Went down a YouTube wormhole last night and might have accidentally spoiled the movie (in terms of characters backgrounds and stuff, not actual plot lines) for myself. Obviously none of what I saw was confirmed but it came from a very reliable source who's broken news months in advance before multiple times.
I'm not going to ruin it but if what I saw is true, we're in for a really big treat.

Perhaps, but Chewie having a son has been canonized in the NU EU, so I would assume that his lipstick wearing walking carpet of a wife and his wacked out creepy grandpa are in the picture.
which really puts Chewie in a bad light, he's been roaming around the galaxy for 50 years while he's got a family sitting at home waiting him to get back from his quick trip to the corner wookie store to buy some smokes.

Captain, I love when you post! You put so much thought into the possibilities. Like you with your dad, my son and I are Star Wars nerds together. Hes10 and starting to come up with all kinds of theories.
Before vii and rogue one we watched all the movies in order. Him being 10 now we powered through the Clone Wars that he watched live from age 3. He's got a much better understanding now re watching (been watching revels live). It's my favourite thing we do together. We go to Flames and Jays games, but he's not into it like I was as a kid (don't get me wrong, he loves it) but Star Wars is truly where we connect best.
We are at anh and plan to watch tfa Thursday before going to see viii on friday

Yeah I really like that I'm taking my dad and mom to the last jedi. We're going to wait a few days to let things calm down, but my Christmas gift to them is a really nice dinner out. And a move together. Sometimes its the simple things.
Sometimes this tradition makes me a bit sad. My dad is in his mid 80's and my mom in her early 80's and since her injury a few years back, she's never quite come back from it. But going to this movie has a feeling of bitter sweet, because the odds say that I might be going to the next one without them.
Scary thought.
My dad and I didn't really bond until after I left home, he was an old school hard a%%, that came from his upbringing with a single mother who didn't really want him around, and he had to raise himself without the help of his brothers. Because of that he came to the conclusion early in my life that Dad's and Sons shouldn't be buddies or friends, the dad was there to guide you on the right path and give you a set of morals to live your life by.
I didn't understand it then, but as I get older, I'm kind of grateful, though it would have been nice to have some memories of playing ball with my dad, or having him show up at all my games whether hockey or football just to be a fan of mine.
When I left home, and I left angry, and pretty much joined the miltary to spite him, but as the years went on, when I got into a sticky situation, I'd ask the question "What would dad do", or "what would dad think".
But it all loops back to Star Wars, between Star Wars and believe it or not Stampede Wrestling, those were the two things that we did bond over, and we could talk about like we were friends.
Now even though my dad didn't have the best of education, nor the type of upbringing that allowed him to make leaps in terms of fantasy worlds. He was incredibly well read, and he could make links between Star Wars and books that he'd read on history or mythology, or religion. It was actually cool to see him get excited about these deep discussions between a 10 year old me, or a 13 year old me, or a 16 year old me. As the movies came out, even though he did say once "Those Ewoks are stupid and pointless".
I never did ask him what he thought about Jar Jar, but I bet it would involve a lot of swears.
My greatest memory of my dad that I have to this day was tossing me and my best friends in the old station wagon on my 10th birthday to stand in line in the shadow of the Calgary Tower as we waited for the doors to be thrown open and to crowd in to watch Star Wars. I remember sitting next to him, we had the huge bucket of popcorn, and when the lights dimmed he asked me "Are you ready". And then when the Star Destroyer cruised overhead, I head him exhale loudly and simply say "Wow".
We went to a lot of sci-fi movies. Battle Star Galactica (remember it was released in theaters as a movie before it became a TV series), and Star Trek, and Buck Rogers, and even the campy Flash Gordon. But nothing could take away from Star Wars. To put it in perspective, my old man always lectured me on how I spent my allowance. "Don't piss your money away son, it might come in handy later". But I remember when I was 10, and I got my allowance, I trudged down to South Center to the toy store, and bought 5 Stormtroopers and a Darth Vader, because I wanted to build an army. And my dad saw me come in and dump the figures out and he thought they were cool.
I guess I'm being a little reflective tonight, but Star Wars can bond families. They talk about the Force being an energy field that binds the galaxy together. But movies like Star Wars are an energy field that can bind a father and son together.
I'm glad you can bond with your boy over Star Wars, its precious.
