I took the family to The Regal Cat Cafe a couple weekends ago. If you don't know, it's a cafe with a second room (separated by a glass wall) that has around 10 cats from the MEOW foundation. You pay $10 to go in the room and play with the cats in one of the 45 minute time slots. They let up to 12 people in the room at a time. The cats are also available for adoption.
The kids have been all over me to go since it opened, so we reserved our spots in the cat room and went. The cafe part is about the size of a small starbucks - maybe 4 tables with some bar seating facing into the cat room. When we walked in, there were about 10 people in the cat room, all sitting around the outside, and only maybe 2 cats that could be seen. I thought it was going to be a disaster. We got drinks, signed waivers, read the rules, and waited.
When our time slot came up, we washed our hands, and entered the room. It's a well lit room set up for cats - lots of places to climb, hide, and sleep. Several cat toys lie around. There is also a cat door to a closed off room, which I presume houses litter boxes, and maybe provides a place a cat can just get away. You are allowed to bring your coffee/snack into the room, but I suspect that might change - one cat in particular was able to pounce on a couple snacks while their owners were busy with other cats.
While we were there, one cat stayed perched high up. Maybe three were sleeping, and the rest just hung around, ready to play/interact. It was actually a lot of fun. Cats chasing little bell balls around the floor, cats just lying around, letting you pet them. They seemed to enjoy the attention and felt at home with all the people around. All of the cats in the room had already been adopted. Hopefully they aren't expecting the same level of attention in their adoptive homes because they were kings/queens in the room, no doubt. Not sure when the next set of cats come in.
Overall, it was a fun experience, but I can't see it being a regular thing - maybe once or twice a year for a treat for the kids. $10 felt just a bit steep, though they said the fee goes towards maintenance/care of the cats.

I don't like cats so I have no desire to visit the place and I haven't bothered to read anything about it other than your review. Do they provide any funding/portion of their sales to the Meow Foundation or other organizations?

I didn't see anything that shows they provide any support for the MEOW foundation beyond taking care of the cats while in their care, and providing a venue to adopt the cats.

Any straight up rhubarb? Tired of the rhubarb getting tainted all the time with strawberries.

Saw that yesterday evening too, I guess good they are filling a space but a bank is a dead zone after hours. Hoping the other couple of bays left in Lido get leased out with some more active uses.

Yay... a bank. I can't count how many times I've gone for a stroll on a weekend traipsing through the Banks of Kensington.
Things Kensington doesn't need more of are banks, schwarma, or sushi.

Agreed, but at least schwarma and sushi are restaurants/cafes active spaces outside of office hours. I'd love for the RBC site on 10th street to get redeveloped, heck I'd be fine if RBC kept a branch in the new development too.

Yeah, I had noticed that, however in some pictures on Yelp they showed a rhubarb-strawberry. I could just buy some rhubarb and do it myself, so I could quit ranting about impure rhubarb desserts.

Well I'm sorry, but no video games until you eat your Rhu-barf.

Kensington needs a Chinese restaurant.
Also burger320 has an amazing patio out back, great way to enjoy a summer night while they last.

Silk Road on 14th is the closest I can think of. Maybe it has to do with Chinatown being within 30 minute walking distance?

Sadly, today is my last day living in the area. We are giving up the apartment and moving in my house in the burbs. The plan is to save some cash to hopefully buy a house in the area.

I've always heard Pizza Bob is a bit of a conspiracy fan.
Now he is driving away customers with his anti-vax and pseudo science on social media:

Wow... he's lost us for good now. We were already very infrequent customers (formerly frequent) as the price was getting too high. $50 for two 12" pizzas that left you still hungry was just too much. With kids - $75 for 3 pizzas? Can't.
Add this chiropractor-esque anti-vaxxer rant to the mix? No thanks.
Does he realize that being in Parkdale - his clientele is like 65% doctor/medical practitioners?

According to Ellen Parker, spokesperson for the Kensington BRZ, Tim Horton’s plans to move in and open up shop by December or January, in the space once occupied by Indian restaurant Maurya.
According to Parker community is split over the announcement. Some are worried that having a big brand in the community will drive up rental rates for smaller businesses. The gut reaction is that this is not a positive move.

I wonder what will happen to the Tim Horton's in Safeway now. Do they reconvert it into a starbucks or leave it as a smaller Tim Horton's operation?
