When is the best time to book a flight for around Christmas?
Should it be done asap? I doubt there will be many sales for flights around this time, but thought I may as well check with the travel junkies.
(and I have a WestJet voucher, so that would be my primary choice)
Edit: And what the heck - Westjet doesn't fly to SFO after October?

Saturday Dec 12 - Tue Dec 15
4 nights
--------
Tuesday departures: Oct 13, 27 Nov 2

So, I need advice from some of the more experienced travellers... what is a "good" price on flights from Calgary to London? We're looking at a Europe trip next May/June. Fares today for next May seem to be about $1050 pp return, plus about $500 pp in taxes. So $3000 in total for 2 people. How much lower might it go?

For two people, with a little luck, patience, and maybe some timely help from cMyden and this thread, you can get both of you there and back for ~$1100 total. No problem.
Especially because you're looking at next May. That's a long ways away.

$3000 would be a horribly high price to pay for 2 people to London. There are charter companies like Thomas Cook and Air Transat with flights in the $700 or less range (including all taxes).
Lately there have been some deals for $567 CDN (incl taxes) in October.
Of course, the more flexible you are with dates the cheaper it is.
But flights to London in May should be easily doable in the $700-800 range.

I'm looking at Europe for 2 people at roughly the same time, so that sounds fantastic.

If you know anyone that lives in the Ottawa/Montreal area, this is a pretty crazy deal...
Montreal to Orlando - $135 USD
Nov 19-26 or Dec 10-17.
On AirTransat. Can see it on Kayak.com.

Hey cMyden (or anyone else with experience in monitoring flight pricing),
How long have you been monitoring flights for? Long enough to see any patterns from season to season?
I've been looking for a flight from YVR to Amsterdam (or somewhere close) in October, and for the last three weeks the prices for most flights to continental Europe have been quite high and largely unchanging.
Have you or anyone else noticed seasonal differences in prices? Can these prices be expected to drop? I booked my Dusseldorf one-way back in June for $250 all in. Flights to Amsterdam right now, for the same time period, are over $1000 return. Seems high, and I'm waiting for it to drop, but it isn't.

Hi Rockstar,
I'm seeing an Air Transat flight from Oct 2 to Oct 10th for $760 all in.
I can only see it on AirTransat.com, for some reason it's not showing for me on a lot of the search engines.
I would think flights for early October would be on sale by now if they were going to be. But it's pretty hard to predict with any accuracy. Sometimes they show up the week before, which is the gamble I guess!

I'm been monitoring a Cathay Pacific flight from Vancouver to Hong Kong for about 2 months now and I'm convinced that Cathay Pacific never ever has sales!
I believe they are an award winning airline, one of the best in the world. I might have to pay up.

I think you missed the boat (for now). Air Canada and WestJet had the 50% off deal a little while ago.
I got a return flight to Vancouver for just over $200 all-in.
Keep your eyes open though, this deal seems to pop up a lot!

Try Air China. I fly with them all the time, and their planes are all upgraded to the latest airbuses. I've flown return from Vancouver to Beijing for as low as $2500.00 in business class, on this plane http://www.airchina.ca/en/a330.html
I'm doing a Calgary-Vancouver-Hong Kong-Beijing-Sydney-Hong Kong-Van-Calgary next month for $4000, all business class. it's an awesome airline for that kind of money.
