Gausman and Bassit #s on 5 days rest Vs 4 is night and day . You need to keep them in full rest for the rest of the season if possible - both to save their arms and because they perform so much better
It’s pretty wishful thinking that both Manoah and Ryu are “back” but if you can even get serviceable starts and eat some innings that’s all you need from a 5th/6th starter

Key is they don't want one less relief pitcher,
Its the correct call IMO
However its highly unlikely all 6 will be healthy
Who knows how Manaoh will pitch, will Gausman go on the injury list etc.

Finding it odd about this 6 man rotation discussion amidst the Marcus Stroman rumours.
Where would he fit in if the Blue Jays (unlikely as it feels) pull the trigger? Send a SP the other way?

I can't see the Stroman thing being anything serious. For one, previous management is still around and I don't think they appreciated his final comments much. He's a polarizing character. As professionals they may be able to turn a new page but then the cost to bring him in given their prospect pool, and their competition aiming to do the same would likely be the cost being too high. Ultimately I hope they just keep this as is rather than adding. I have little confidence this team can do much even if in the playoffs. Ideally I'd deal some expirings and give it a go next year but there's null chance of that occurring. But no point in selling the little farm we have to force something that doesn't make sense long term.

I don’t think the Cubs would be interested in any of our starters other than Manoah but I wouldn’t move him at his lowest point.
If the Jays picked up Stroman and Gausman is back, I think they would move Kikuchi to the pen to potentially piggy back on Ryu starts and the team might try to play around with Ryu and Manoah starts to keep them as fresh as possible as well as to protect the bullpen from two guys who may not pitch more than 5 innings.
If the Jays go out and get Stroman or a different starter, I think it will be a message that they really aren’t convinced that Manoah is back and he may need to continue to do work in the minors. The starter would be a way to give them some insurance for Manoah and/or Ryu.
Honestly, I am not super optimistic about Ryu. He’s never been a power pitcher but he can barely touch 90mph right now and if he isn’t completely on point, he’s just going to get crushed. I really hope that he really proves me wrong.

I also don’t think they’ll want to give up any assets to pick up a potential rental in Stroman.

Jays have promoted Orelvis Martinez to AAA
He had a terrible start to the season but has been absolutely raking for two months now after getting adjusted to some changes he apparently made.
Sure would be nice to have a homegrown replacement ready to replace Chapman at 3B next season.
Feels like a Orelvis has been around forever as a prospect and he kind of has, but he's still just 22 years old.

It feels like we haven’t seen much development from the system in the past couple of years so it’s nice to have a guy smooth off some of his rough edges. I’d like to see Martinez get time in the big leagues next year but I think we should have a vet come in to take the bulk of the workload while letting Martinez get his feet wet in the big leagues.

Ohtani is a guy that you’ll be able to tell your grandkids stories about getting to see him play. He’s so special that it’s almost a privilege to get to watch him play.

But not why couldn't we see him on a team that mattered and contended for championships? Trout and Ohtani on one team that sucks is fascinating in the worst way.

One can only dream that the Jays go on a deep playoff run this year and entice Ohtani to play for them.
Maybe we could trade Varsho for Trout. 1 for 1 as they say?

Absolute bush league call on that third strike. Manoah is going to throw 50 pitches in the first inning.

A lot of red flags in this Manoah outing. No swing and miss. Got rattled after the missed call and couldn't hit his spots. And nearing 40 pitches already.
