They were paving the main road up the hill on that section yesterday, was wild to see. Everything remotely close to Hwy 8 is basically just getting started though, so tons of work still to do.

Was down by where 22 and 22X connect in the SW. Drove down some newly opened asphalt. How much of that part is new? (I've literally never driven down there in my entire life).

Didn't stop them from shutting down the Hwy 8 - 101st street intersection. What a pain.

From what I gather the issue at 22x isn't the south ring road its the part leading up to it (ie. closer to Macleod). Lots of paving left to do still even though the actual ring road looks nearly done

Yeah, overtop of Macleod is still a major construction zone and is down to single lanes so I could see that being the hold up for sure.

Should be fine by next week and even if it isn't, doesn't really matter as long as Fish Creek to 22X has passed the audit.

I'm so tempted to drive on that unopened section of fish creek to 22x. If they delay past Oct 1, I'm doing it!

Isn’t there a daily penalty for any delays after Oct 1? I’d be curious to know what the $ value is. If it’s low enough they may not really care

You can read the agreement here: https://open.alberta.ca/publications...gary-ring-road
If I'm not mistaken, it's shown at the end of Schedule 15. I'm not an expert on this stuff though.

$2500/day is laughably low and nowhere near an incentive to open on time

Agreed. For the size of the project, it's crazy low.

It seems like that is just the "bonus" amount if they are late. There are multiple other provisions that have penalties in them that likely add up very quickly for each day they are not complete.

Some of the specified penalties for deficiencies are calculated on a lane/km basis, so they add up very quickly.

Given the penalty for the SE was $70k/day, there's probably somewhere else that the bulk of the penalty is codified.

I have to get on Stoney EB from James McKevitt on the way home. Three times I've seen people get into the unopened Stoney lanes from McKevitt to MacLeod.
Two separate times, drivers did it on purpose as they swerved between the pylons, sped away, then slowed down and merged back before the bridge over the train tracks before MacLeod. I so wanted a cop to be sitting someplace to pull those clowns over, impound their vehicles, and fine them thousands. I would think they were project workers and just being being morons.
I'm pretty sure the other one was just stunned and couldn't figure out where they should be driving.

If they could ding them on everything else in that schedule (especially bridges) it could be over $100,000 a day. It's just really hard to spell out a specific number.

Anyone know when they might connect the missing link on airport trail where it turns into 96 ave ne? I’m talking about the little loop that you have to do between 36 st ne and metis trail ne. Right now you have to detour down to 88 ave ne.
Any info?
