Berretini played well but Rafa was just too good, coming back from 0-4 in the first set tie breaker. Both finals are rematches from Rogers Cup, let's hope we get the same winners.

Me? I like to root for the villain. So I'd prefer the heels win to stick it to the crowd. I realize Bianca isn't a real heel, but she'll be treated like one today. And she'll be a legend if she goes Medvedev against the crowd.

I don't think Bianca is the personality type to go heel. I think she'll probably struggle with the crowd, and if she gets frustrated with them the way Bencic did, it'll be pretty much impossible for her to win. Obviously a lot depends on whether you get average to better Serena. Off-day Serena gets beat comfortably.
Medvedev is the opposite. I honestly wish he'd kept up his villainous ways for more than two matches, it'd make tomorrow pretty compelling TV regardless of what the outcome is. Ultimately he's probably too beat up to put up much resistance to Nadal; he's been heavily taped all tournament and just looks run down.

Well the easiest way to overcome the crowd is to play like Halep did at Wimbledon where you won't even let the crowd in the match because it's one way traffic. But she definitely is going to need to use all that variety she has, it's always been the best way to beat Serena, mix it up and make her run around a lot. Playing a baseline game is suicide.

The thing is, I don't know what will work. I agree there need to be some drop shots mixed in to get Serena running in all directions rather than just east west, but you have to get into a rally a little bit before you can do that. Outside of that though, Bianca really tried to get her slice into the mix against Bencic a lot, and Bencic didn't have any trouble with it at all. She also hits this high looping forehand once in a while, whose purpose doesn't seem to be defensive so much as aimed at disrupting rhythm, and I'm not sure that's a good play vs. Serena, who can run around it and hit a winner pretty easily. I'd give the slice a go in the first set, but if it's not producing errors or causing chaos on the other side of the net, be ready to forget that shot pretty quickly.

The nice thing is she has adaptability, so she should be able to adjust her approach to how Serena is playing. She's a very good tactical player even at such a young age. If she can keep her head she is gonna have a really good chance to take this I think.

When Bianca wins today, I want the Canadians in the crowd to start singing O Canada ala Men's final at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. Any chance someone put a loonie in the court?

She was a mom last year when she went bat####. If she's going bat####, Bianca is doing her job.

I hope she doesn't have another break down because then all the talk after the match will be about her again. I also don't want the crowd booing Bianca when she accepts the trophy.

She also was a mom last year when she went batchit crazy on Carlos Ramos who effectively has been banned from umpiring any Serena match simply for enforcing the rules of the game.

If it would ever happen, it would be in NY...if Williams somehow or someway starts on a similar path to the Osaka thing from last year’s final, criticizing calls or the umpire, in some crazy way, the NY crowd is fed up and thus turns on her for the match as opposed to last year when they turned on the umpire and the Osaka, would be crazy.
I don’t think Williams could recover from that on the day from that heel turn, if Bianca played even half dececnt. The salt and innuendo Williams would unleash after the match would be massive.

Who cares? I'd rather they boo the #### out of her after a win than meekly applaud when she loses. American media is talking about Serena no matter what happens so no biggie there.

If someone wanted to do some heavy day drinking and come up with a drinking game for this one, you could probably be sloshed before the first couple of games are over.

TSN website calling it a match between "two giants". CBC news yesterday asking a tennis columnist if Bianca is one of the "all-time greats, like Serena".
