I also feel bad that David Rittich never got a video. I recall he just got off Covid protocol and wasn't dressed when Nashville came to Calgary early last year. I think too much time has passed now...
Who knows, Coleman got a video tribute in New Jersey last season even though he won 2 Stanley Cups with another team since he had last played for the Devils.

Most recently, Seattle fans booed the return of Russell Wilson. It's just how sports works.

David Rittich would not have got a tribute video even if he was here and dressed for a game. He was likeable but he was a back up goalie that played two full seasons here.

Why didn't Johnny just say something like "I loved my time in Calgary and I will always have fond memories. But my wife and I decided that it was best for us to move back to the US, hopefully as close to home as possible".
Instead of all the BS about wanting to stay. His agent goofed, and he goofed. He tried to use the Flames to leverage money and failed. Good riddance from me. No ovation or applause.

Yes this sounds so much better than "we've decided that it's best not to return to Calgary" .

I wonder.... in the future, if we win the Stanley Cup with Huberdeau, Weegar, and Kadri - and if we knew this, would people still boo Johnny on his return.
I don't think people should boo him... he made a decision... and if he signed here, we wouldn't be signing Huberdeau I think (although the Tkachuk trade was what got us that piece, so who know what would have happened - I can safely say our team would be different).
Calgary is high class... booing him is not. He gave us 9 years and we should celebrate that.

I wouldn't boo him only because booing needs energy, and I don't have much of that and I don't want to spend it on him. But, I wouldn't tell people they "shouldn't" boo him. People should be allowed to do what pleases them and especially those that paid to be at the game. They have the right to do what pleases them, except of course spewing out offensive language while booing.

How is the Flames making good moves after he left relevant at all?

Because he is uncomfortable talking publicly, and he stumbles through it.
People read way too much into his comments, he simply isn't very well spoken and we need to remember that when we over-analyze his quotes.

It's not... but we wouldn't be signing all those guys we did.... if he signed here the rest of the way it played out wouldn't be the same at all.
But Johnny's was a free agent, how is he exercising that agency upsetting to anyone in Calgary... it happens all the time and it's part of the business of the NHL.

Exactly this. Also, I feel the GM was burned and chapped a bit by want went down. He's now tempered his loyalty/open door/make you happy with if that player needs to go right now. He's gonna be able to manage assets and build us stronger if her spends a few more years moving pieces out when it's time instead of past time.

Yup. I think he may also be the type who doesn't like confrontation, just wants everybody to be happy. So he acted like things were a-ok and he'd be happy to be back, when in reality it seems like he already knew he was gone. I get it, but that's still not how you handle that situation. I still like Tkachuk, he handled a tough situation properly at least.
Sucks how it all ended up with Johnny's legacy here, but it is what it is, and he frankly made a mess of it himself...even though I really don't think that was his intent. It's pro sports, dude gonna get booed.

Which is all well and good in post game interviews and other scenarios where he’s answering off the cuff. But that’s not what this was. Not most of it anyways. If he ####ed up one post signing presser or interview, I’d be with you all the way.
But Johnny got the prepared statements just as wrong as he did the interviews. He ####ed us every single interview, statement and softball question. There was literally zero effort on his part to put together a classy or even coherent statement. Even the stuff that happened in the subsequent days, after the fallout was making headlines, he did nothing to rectify it. Not a single shred of effort.
It’s nothing short of an abject failure on Johnny’s part. The way he handled the entire thing reeks of immaturity. It also shows that he just doesn’t give a crap about his legacy. At any point he could have made amends but he didn’t.
He deserved every bit of criticism and backlash from fans. Blaming it on his awkwardness is letting him off easy.
I also think either his agent is an idiot or he tried his best and Johnny didn’t care enough to listen. Likely the latter considering he agent put that goodbye letter in the athletic.
