What would the Jackets want for Johannsen? It would be too rich for the Flamea to consider I am sure

Absolutely. Getting Bernier's salary off the books certainly helps free up more cap room. Not sure why this trade hasn't happened yet as it makes a lot of sense for both sides unless Lou is getting greedy but outside of the Flames it's going to be difficult for him to get rid of Bernier's contract and come out of it with some sort of asset. At least Hiller is off the books next season and it's not like that team is going anywhere this season.

There was that Russian kid. Alex Ovechkin?! He had a dip in production a few years back and took all the flack and critism and went about his business.. Where is he now?
Stamkos is a beast. He's determined, super skilled and wants to win. You think he's on the downward slopenof his career? Absolutely not. The guy is good for at least 85+ points a season for the next handful of years.

they dont have cap issues, that trade makes zero sense for them
much better idea to try and rehab Bernier and draft him for future assets

I'm sure they'd want Bennett+.
If they would take Backlund, Poirier, + 2016 1st, I'd be all over it.

Yea and put us in cap hell for years to come. Think about it, Mony, Johnny, Bennett, all ought to get a raise, then you have Stamkos, then the next big one is Gio.

Far different situations. Boston traded Hamilton because they had no cap space didn't want someone to offer sheet him. Columbus doesn't have to worry about that.

Maybe the Jackets could give Backlund Johansens #19 so that way Jackets fans could easily make their Johansen Jersey into a Backlund.

I'm pretty sure Gio signed a new contract already

Backlund, Jankowski, Hickey, Kulak Package? Too much quantity over quality?

As much as he's struggling this year, Johansen is 23 year old, first line center with size, who's been top 20 producer in goals and points over the last couple seasons without being completely useless defensively and is even a good faceoff guy. And even with his struggles this year, he's only a point behind Monahan.
The easiest comparable player on the team is certainly Monahan, so I guess if you would accept that package for Monahan, you're on the right track but a ton of other teams would be willing to give up quantity for quality.
Hurting Johansen's value is the apparent attitude problems, his contract negotiations last time around and the potential uncertainty around the health of his heart. But for a player of his calibre, I think a ton of teams would be willing to look the other way and offer actual quality. Not often do young big first line centers enter the market.

He hasn't been within 30 points of his best year since he turned 26...

Stamkos is absolutely on a downward trend. Not sure how you could argue otherwise. Pretty much every elite player is after 25. Is he going to be a great player still? Sure. $10M for 7 years? No way in hell

To me, there are two knocks on Johansson:
1) he's a Vancouver boy, which means he's no good;
2) he came from Mike Johnston's cheatin Portland Winterhawks program and I have not liked the attitude and entitlement issues that seem to plague graduates from that program.
Otherwise, he's a great package of size and skill. I hope the Canucks decimate their prospect depth for him.

^ I would prefer that he didn't come into our division unless it was for us.

We don't need Johansen, if we are giving up big assets for a young stud player it should be on the wing, we are set at centre going forward. It is like having a bunch of apples and only a couple of oranges and wanting to trade for more apples. It doesn't make sense...unless you hate oranges.

Makes lots of sense seeing there won't be a lot of teams willing to accept the $6+ million remaining on his deal. Future assets is for him is a pipe dream at this point and cap space is the new currency in the NHL. Stamkos will cost them in the range of $10 million/season and I'm fairly sure in negotiations he's going to ask that the Leafs try to surround him with some talent so they will need ever dollar they can get. His and Hillers deal are a wash and the key is that Hiller's comes off the books at the end of the season.

If Darryl Sutter was the GM of the Blue Jackets he may consider that a good deal but nobody else would touch that with a 10 foot pole. Hickey/Andersson may be intriguing but the rest of those players are roster filler at best as Poirier is struggling right now in the AHL and likely doesn't hold much value.

I could see Vancouver going all in for Johannsen but they would likely have to give up Horvat+Tanev and I am not sure that is a price they would be willing to pay especially with how horrible their blueline is.
I have no idea what the Jackets want? They need a stud Dman but if they trade Johannsen they need a stud forward as well.
