I'd say it does. But what sets Mad Men apart for me is the characters: you start to fall in love with them, root for them, love to hate them (hate to love them?), and the pacing doesn't even matter after a while.

It's my favorite show ever probably, ahead of Sopranos, True Detective season 1 or The Wire.
And I loved it after the first episode. It's not really a plot driven show so I wouldn't say the pacing really picks up. It's more about characters and capturing the era. And particularly it's depiction of office/business life in NYC at the time is what interested me.
Whisky distillers need to be thankful of that show. Single handedly brought the Old Fashioned back into vogue and it is still everywhere.

There are some frantic and WTF moments that shove the plot forward, but if you're looking for it to build towards finales like Better Call Saul you may find it plodding. It's a character drama that gets better each season as you invest more in the characters, IMO.

Ok just finished season 1.
We’re into the flow of the show now.
One thing I will say is there aren’t too many characters to cachet for in this show.

I do believe season 4 of True Detective kicks off tomorrow. Jody Foster in Alaska. Should be a banger. I'm gonna cal this one and say it'll be the 1st season that matches season 1.

I thought season 3 was great.

Okay, I could do a long and drawn out prose about why you should watch The Bear, but this is a scene that really captures the essence of the show. It's chaotic, messy, hard to watch, but at the core, it's about people. Here's an example of why...

That whole episode is one of my favorite all-time tv episodes. But I hesitate to recommend it standalone to someone - part of the power of it is watching Richie's journey leading up to that episode. So I usually just say watch the whole show, there are tons of great payoffs throughout.

I'm pretty sure I've seen it mentioned here but out in the wild, I don't meet too many people who have seen Reservation Dogs (on Disney+).
One of my favourite shows ever. There's only three seasons, the story ends, and it's a dramedy about a bunch of kids growing up on a reservation. I can't really think of too much content out there that's quite like it.
It’s so good, and eye opening, funny but with a lot of emphasis on community, family and friendship
I can’t help but use “skoden” in my vocabulary now as well

OMG - that's awesome!!
Where is this on and where can I watch it (now) - don't know how old a program this is?
Just finished Season 3 of "The Bridge" on MHz Choice - a Danish/Swedish production (subtitled). Gritty and surprisingly excellent, as were the first two seasons. Apparently there's a fourth, but I haven't found it yet....and it will need a bit before I'm ready....my wife enjoyed it as well but could only take 1 episode at a time.
