His value may never be higher than it is now, and if it would net us one of those Finnish RWers we'd have a well-balanced squad with a lot of young players coming of age around the same time.

Is Backlund really a big upgrade on any of Dubinsky, Jenner or Wennberg? They're desperate for a #1 centre, they arguably have three #2 centres. Backlund is more of what they have IMO.

Tkachuk and Dubois will go before pick #6. Only because the yearning for both of them on CP is palpable.

We may not have been the luckiest team when it comes to the lotto balls but we have been lucky when it comes to our top 10 picks in the rebuild. I say this as I was firmly in the Monahan camp in 2013 and was hoping for Bennett or Reinhart in 2014. In both cases the Flames were not going to get the luxury of choosing one of those players over Lindholm or Draisaitl but would get to pick them if the team before passed on our players.
Monahan has proven to be much better than Lindholm in the draft+3 seasons. He is arguably the best player from that draft (although many will still claim MacKinnon, Barkov, Jones are better).
Bennett likely is still the 4th pick in a redraft but being the youngest of the 4 he still can show he is the best player from that draft with a big summer.
I get the feeling the Flames will luck out with one of Dubois or Tkachuk available when we pick at 6

I don't know. I would also be happy if Dubois or Tkachuk fell to us at 6th, but it just hasn't been that type of year. The team played poorly, our best prospect was injured, and we moved back in the draft. It's hard to remain optimistic at this point.
I still think Edmonton trades the pick and the new team picks Dubois/Tkachuk. Vancouver takes the remaining player.
What gives you the feeling that the Flames will luck/lick out?

I think one of the Oilers or Canucks take a Dman or centre.
Hearing rumors the Canucks are shopping McCann for a pick or D prospect leading me to think there is a chance they go after Brown. With Sven, Virtanen, and Boeser as young wingers they are developing they lack Dmen. They have Horvat, Sutter, and Granlund up front at centre but only Bo with top 6 potential. Sedin only has a couple years left.
I could see the Oilers trading that pick but if they don't Jolevi seems like a player they would cover and I could see them drafting before another winger

Could easily see the Oilers taking Juolevi at 4 at this point - especially if he continues a strong memorial cup performance.
If somebody does trade up to take Dubois at 4, then I could see the Canucks taking Brown. I wonder if they could overthink the pick and see Tkachuk as too similar to Virtanen (and maybe Boeser) and wanting to get a prospect that fills a different hole.

Tkachuk and Virtanen are not similar at all. One is a talented playmaker, the other has the hockey IQ of Zach Kassian.

Yes, but this is Vancouver we're talking about. Based on their drafting Virtanen 6th overall, it's not unreasonable to conclude that hockey IQ is not a priority. They drafted a winger with 2 of their last 3 1st rounders, not crazy to think they wouldn't go for three in four based on their needs (top-line centers, top-pairing defencemen).

NHL Central Scouting’s Final Rankings Combined
4 lists. Aggregated.
By THW's E-Mac
"Every year NHL Central Scouting produces a segregated set of rankings at mid-season as well as their final rankings. Four lists are produced in the following categories:
- North American Skaters
- International Skaters
- North American Goalies
- International Goalies
These lists make the job easier for Central Scouting but they are limited in terms of where a respective prospect ranks across the lists. Therefore, each year I combine the four lists into one to obtain a better understanding of where Central Scouting is ranking the players overall."
LINK to full combined rankings - view on the web or your device, in downloadable spreadsheet and PDF formats.

Do most view Juolevi as the clear cut best defensema? I'm a bit dissappointed that Burke has him higher than Nylander. I hope Olli's numbers aren't inflated by being on the Knights. How's his overall game? Even though he played on the Knights, his offensive numbers are inferior to Sergachev & Chychrun.

I think the majority still lies with Chychrun. I myself believe Sergachev is the best of the 3 though. Juolevi is my #2 but his style seems redundant for the Flames.

I think the liklihood of the Oilers using their pick at #4 is down to about 10% chance.
They trade it and it won't be for a series of other draft picks. It will be for NHL roster player(s) and a later first round pick.

On Tkachuk, Jeff Marek was on the Fan960 and has been watching him all year. He thinks he is nursing a lower body injury (ankle/foot). Says he can get around just fine and people may just be nitpicking. Mentions phenomenal hockey and puck sense.
I really didn't think about it but Marek talked about how high of a level Marner and Dvorak play/think the game and as a 17 year old Tkachuk doesn't look out of place at all. Flip flopping again, but I wouldn't mind him on a line with Gaudreau and Monahan.

Reading between the lines a little bit but if the Flames truly think that Nylander will be better than his brother than I don't see how he isn't their number 6.
It's a guy who was over PPG in both his seasons in the AHL since being drafted, was a ppg in the swedish league before coming over, and was 0.6 PPG in his first 22 NHL games.
If the Flames organization actually believe that statement then it is likely they have him in the top 6.
