The solution to a trade imbalance is to up your exports (which helps everyone world wide) nor regressionist protectionism *which hurts everyone).

As most people who are anti trump you have gone to the extreme in describing what Trump actually wants to do. Like you stated he wants to increase exports, however one way to do that is by bring American companies back to America. The current administration have chased away manufacturing. Ford, Dodge, Nabisco, etc are moving manufacturing to Mexico. That hurts the USA on the jobs front, as well GDP. Let's talk about Energy. The current administration has abandoned the campaign promise of becoming energy independent. Now they have moved us into a situation where the US will be paying even more billions to OPEC for energy in the coming years. On every front the US is getting decimated in trade and IMO this will bankrupt the country if something isn't done.
And by the way - Protectionism in trade - every country practices some level of protectionism. Canada included. At the end of the day a country needs to act in the best intrest of its own citizens. This is reality.

Trump is on record staying he wants to put 35% tariffs on all goes manufactured in certain countries. He wants to kill terrorists families. He's got a big penis.
He's actually said all those things. You try to add nuance, but there wasn't any when he said it

Tremendous votes today in Louisiana, Kansas, and Kentucky for Trump. Today is the day where we find out what impact the Romney attacks, debate attacks, KKK, yuge penis, and brokered conventional plans have on the race.
I don't see much chance LA falls to Cruz, but Kansas could, and there isn't much polling out of Kentucky, so it really is an unknown.
Number of delegates at play today isn't the big story, but really as indicator of where the election is heading when we hit the 15th and the winner-take-all states begin.

Did affluent Americans flock out of the country back in the 60s and 70s when income tax was as high, or higher, than Sanders is proposing?

The US already pays an insane amount for healthcare per capita as it is, so it makes no sense for us to not ensure that everyone has access to healthcare. Beyond that, by introducing a medicare for all system, hopefully it would mean that we could start to negotiate down the cost of healthcare services and medications in this country.

A report came out yesterday that Sanders tax plan would raise $15.5 trillion.
That is enough to pay off a HUGE chunk of the debt.

But conservatives don't want to pay the debt, they want other people to pay the debt. To them, it's not the endless war machine causing the debt, it's not the ridiculous tax breaks given to corporations causing the debt...nope, it's those damn SNAP programs that make sure the most vulnerable Americans don't starve to death that are at fault.

And Maine, too!
If Trump wins big today, then reading the meaning is easy: he's just streamrolling everything. But if he does poorly (let's say, wins Louisiana but loses at least a couple others and finishes in the low 30s in overall support), it's going to be difficult to tell how much is impact of attack ads and negative press, and how much is the difference of a general disadvantage in closed caucus systems.

Obviously paying off the debt shouldn't be expected right now, but you'd think the US could at least run a balanced budget pretty easily if they taxed people and companies a little more fairly.

Sounds like Hillary is going to get destroyed today in the Nebraska caucuses today. Hopefully Bernie can do well in Louisiana as well.

Last Louisiana poll has Bernie down 50 points. So I'm not sure what doing well would even look like. Most recent Michigan poll also has him down big. Hill keeps getting steeper to climb.

Rand Paul was the only candidate from either side that was actually campaigning on whittling down the national debt.
Sanders would bring in extra tax dollars which would be needed for his proposed social programs.

Kansas caucus returns starting to come in now, and very early on, it looks good for Cruz. There's a chance he becomes the first republican in any state to break 50%.

Ba ha ha. Jesus. All this talk of calling him Hitler and a fascist is a little much (because Hitler was Hitler, and a fascist actually believes in something) but didn't these morons even consider the optics of this?

Universal health care would save money long-term.
Either way its not about reducing the debt as much as growing the economy.
But given how much the US spends and what the deficit is at right now, the US could easily balance the budget with small increases in taxes and less pork.
Run a $100 billion dollar surplus per year. Use that to slowly pay off debt.

For as nice as it is to see Trump knocked down a peg or two tonight, sucks it has to be Cruz who's doing it. Trump really has been so loud and attention seeking it's hidden how much worse an option Cruz is. Trump has to go off on him now that he's the clear number one threat.
