6 up 6 down for Maile and just got Schneider out on a 41mph pitch. Yikes. Haha.

If you read between the lines you can really see that he thinks the Jays don't have the bats or the offense to be competitive.
They over rotated from a team overly reliant on home runs that had poor defense / starting pitching, to a team that had no power or consistent bats and strong defense / starting pitching.
And then that over rotation was pretty clear last offseason, and they did nothing to actually add those bats back (there wasn't a lot on the market either to be fair to management), and then unfortunately the starting pitching and bullpen also took a big step back.

Looks like the Votto experience is over. Dude left a wonderful goodbye message on his socials. In the most Votto way possible. He's retiring.

Agreed. The batting is fully on this management. Bullpen, ultimately they're accountable for the entirety of whatever they put together but I've that's something that can easily go wrong year to year unless you're paying through the nose to get top consistent talent. I don't know if anyone is that dumb to do it when the batting is almost always more pressing to address first. The bullpen in my mind was just a bit of bad luck, starting with the Swanson injury, then cascading to others. I don't blame management for too much of that. But the atrocious bats? Completely predictable, and I'm more than happy it fell flat because it was a dumb idea to begin with. For things to change they have to fall flat and this year puts the nail in the defence first experiment.
One thing I've been clamoring for for years has been to get on base and threaten to steal. I see the value in having a few guys who can hit bombs, but for everyone else, I want to see them get on base. Once on base, threaten to run. It throws the pitcher off focus, it throws the catcher to select pitches they otherwise may not, and overall just seems like an untested things that should have been tried ages ago. The team top to bottom though should be able to get on base. That's just the baseball I want to see - solid eyes, take walks, and single to death (Tampa Bay style).

Could have been a fun farewell if he wouldn't have gotten injured.
I have a lot of time for Votto, seems like he'd be a good dude to have a beer with.

Out of the kids. Who do we think can actually make a difference for the team next year if they're trying to win?
I think Horwitz and Clement have pretty much played their way onto the team. Loperfido may be a platoon option for the outfield. Schneider(bummer) and Barger need some more polish.

Not if they want to be a factor in the AL east,
Maybe 1 one of them, my guess Horwitz.
Clement is a bench guy, utility player best case (i.e. like Baggio)
Schneider is gone,
Barger is likely in AAA
Loperfido is likely in AAA
