A white guy with high no education liking Trump isnt a shock but the boot licking and to say meeting him is better than winning two cups lol.
Whatever, good hockey player but the guy was always a huge dbag...even in Calgary if we are being honest. Its not a shock king dbag is his hero. Hopefully its not them and the Oilers again.

I'd bet all of the US players and even a healthy amount of Canadian players are Trumpers. These guys are detached from reality, they live a fantasy life. They don't think any of this will ever impact them.
Tkachuck I understand (I don't like it) but I understand why he'd be thrilled with visiting this whitehouse. I actually dont think he has any awareness of what's going on politically or what it means. To be fair he'd might react the same regardless of the ruling party.
Canadian players -- I know they make a living in the US, but I'm surprised no Canadian player has ever had anything to say about how this administration has treated Canada. But NHL players are typically not the type to ever say anything.
Its always up to NBA guys to start speaking out.

There's no upside for an NHL player to talk politics. No matter what they alienate a segment of their fanbase. If they stay quiet there's no issue.
Tkachuk was born into millions and millions, won two cups, and is the league badboy. He has zero f's to give.

I have a very hard time caring about what Matthew Tkachuk thinks about anything, especially politics.

Because some people actually give a #### about the direction our world is headed in and real lives are effected by what the orange rapist is doing. Tkachuk has a podcast and a high profile, young impressionable kids actually listen to what he says and watch what he does. Sanctioning a dementia ridden pedophile is pretty disgusting, even for a low IQ athlete.

I mean we aren't talking about any of the other players going there...whatever its tradition. But when you say such cult follower bootlicking things its going to be mentioned.
Glad they beat the Oilers, hope that is the end of both teams

Not saying you are, but comparing NBA to NHL is like comparing apples to oranges methinks.
I wonder if there is some encouragement from the NHLPA/NHL for players to stay silent on these political topics, and not bring attention to the league. The NHL is under the radar in the states, and wouldn't want to do anything to rock the boat to make their viewership drop. Whereas the NBA & NFL viewership and revenue trumps the NHL's. But aside from that, the player and viewers demographic being completely different from the NHL's makes it more challenging - and quite frankly detrimental - to those leagues to muzzle their players on race topics and the like. We know how controversial the Kaepernick ordeal was back in 2016, and the NFL owners were actively trying to discourage that. They were able to get away with it then, but with the climate of 2026, the magnitude is much greater.

I think it's generally bad business to let politics get into it. The teams and league probably do their best to try and keep that out of it. I am sure the team owners, management, and player agents try to deter them from rocking the boat.
A lot of fans are pretty turned off about the White House visit this year given the political climate. If the league thinks the negative outweighs the positive attention, maybe they will stop doing it. I hope enough fans make themselves heard, but I am guessing most American fans don't give a crap.

I'll give many of them a pass just because the real issues and contentions with filthy disgusting pigs like Trump and his peers is outside of their spheres of experience and understanding.
But sweet jesus, if Tkachuk beaming with a "Trump" jersey after licking his toes doesn't test me on some level (with everything going on presently).
I can only hope Matthew somehow stumbles into more educated wisdom in his later years.

What a pathetic comment and sentiment. Yeah, shame on those same posters for consistantly calling out garbage behavior when they see it, they should just be quiet.
Athletes have the option to say nothing, a lot of them do just that. We have no idea what kind of a person they are and what they support. That's a baseline, doing and saying nothing is a zero and that's fine for some people. I'd prefer if if everyone used their position for good but that's not for everyone, ok.
Then there are some who do podcasts, give interviews where they engage in discussion on all types of media and have endorsements. If they want to align themselves with the most disgusting people in politics and support racism, abuse of human rights, sexual assault and criminal behavior then some people will call that out.

The other guys (especially the Canadians on the team) dressed up like Trump and laughing along while he made fun of Canada irritate me more than maybe it should.
