I wonder with the regime change in Colorado if they possibly look at taking McKinnon instead of Jones? Not sure if that would change anything for the Flames as I expect that the Panthers would snap up Jones.
Considering they have Duchene and O'Reilly I don't see them using the pick on another center when most scouts say Jones is the best player anyways. The connection to the franchise as a kid just makes so much sense for Colorado to take Seth

A bold move would be to draft Mackinnon and put him in the lineup as the 3rd line C for next season...
... Then, trade Duchene for the best D they can get for him...his stock is likely quite high right now.

I agree about the natural fit for Jones and the Avs but you could convert McKinnon to winger and they were discussing on the Sportsnet 590 noon broadcast and Kypreos and the others were saying there was no way the Avalanche could pass up on McKinnon. Should be a pretty exciting draft as the order of the top 5 is anything but a given.
Interesting option for the fifth round.
Local kid Jesse Lees with the Kelowna Rockets.
Watched him in bantam and midget and he was an offensive force and really controlled the powerplays and puck movement. Seems to have pretty good offensive numbers for a young guy in the WHL.

On the bright side, I see us nabbing Compher & McCoshen type guys because of their USHL roots. I feel Compher is a great fit with the Flames, & he seems to fit the profile of recent Feaster/Weisbrod picks.
If Pulock drops to the St Louis pick & we pass on him I will be ultra-pissed.
Based on the THN write-up (fwiw) I don't want any part of Pulock.
No chance they trade Duchene unless it's massive overpayment. That^ is underpayment.
Ya, you're right... I had trouble making a package from ANA that would give COL the help they'd be looking for on D... I thought it'd be great for ANA to have Duchene replace Koivu, then they could sign Iginla to replace Selanne and they could stay relevant for next season.
What about a deal centered around Duchene for Shea Weber... If NSH is happy with the progress of their young D, that could make sense for them.
Maybe Duchene to the Jets for Evander Kane and one of their D?
I'm not sure what other youngish stud D are out there on teams that really need a C.
Would anybody trade #6 for the three Columbus picks if it was offered.
Not a chance I would do that.
6 isn't surefire like the top 3 but getting into the teens/20's is a big drop off compared to 6 and the quantity isn't close to as valuable to the quality in my books.

I think if they were offered Duchene for Weber you take it, then draft MacK to replace Duchene (Both extremely fast skaters).
If they were to trade him they'd probably want a young stud Dman, Subban, Hamilton, etc. But I really don't see him being traded anytime soon, grew up an huge Colorado fan and will probably take a pay cut to stay there.
In terms of the 3rd rounder, if he's on the board I really want to pick Nick Baptiste. 6'1"/190lbs RW. Had a great U18 WC. Wears #12 for Canada, & as I said in another thread he kinda reminds me of someone...

He's underrated... he got buried on the Rockets this year and didn't see a ton of ice, I think he might even have been a healthy scratch for a bit with all the defensive depth before injuries hit, if he played for PG or somebody crappy he would be a 2nd or 3rd rounder because he would have seen 1st pair powerplay time and scored 45-60 points. Really good puckmover and a quick decision maker, Bowey will probably be better as he is more physical and has better wheels but I would pick Lees over the third Rockets d-man (Mitch Wheaton) who is actually ranked higher than him. All three are decent though. Lees doesn't have a huge physical edge, would not have been a good pick in the old clutch and grab NHL.
I wish we had a 2nd as I'd love to see the Flames grab Madison Bowey, I just don't know that he's worth a 1st with all the talent on the board and he won't last till the 3rd.

Wow, could be a good power forward ... Doesn't appear to have the greatest hands, but I guess that's why he'd be a 3rd round guy as opposed to a 1st... I love the diving poke check he made to set up a goal...great effort!!

What did they have to say about him?
The only negatives I hear about him are that he had no supporting cast in Brandon this year but still performed well. I also hear from several sources that the kid has Al MacInnis potential.
