I think that one of the BIG 4 will make it to the final (not France) but they won't win it. Spain likely will.

As much as I think Germany and Brazil have as good a chance to win it as anyone, I'd take the field. Spain and Holland have been too impressive to ignore.

I'd take the field.

Same two teams Locke mentioned.

I'll take the field as well. The Dutch are going to win the whole thing. I hope.

I just really hope, for selfish reasons of course, that Spain somehow finishes 2nd in their group. Then rebounds to win the whole thing!!

No word of a lie, if the Dutch make the final I'll be on the next plane to Amsterdam.

Ah the Dutch. Never has there been such an elegant footballing nation that perpetually fails to deliver when it matters most.

Having said that, I have a soft spot for the Oranje and would like to see them do well and exorcise the ghosts of 1974, 1978, 1994, 1998 - I'll stop now.

I was at Holland-Brazil 1994 Quarterfinal in the Cotton Bowl. I'm a Brazil fan but was I sad that Holland lost (I was sitting close to their band!). And I got a huge sunburn too. It was HOT!

Plus one of the first two Brazilian goals was a mile offside.

Like the article states, England could have used Matt Le Tissier and his 98% success rate in penalties. That idiot Glenn Hoddle decided to leave Le Tiss at home in '98 in light of the penalty failures in '96 against the Kr*uts. I guess in his mind it was more important to pack the side with former and current Spurs players than it was to take players that could help out in certain situations. That man was an absolute buffoon.

I've never liked penalties in any sport. My cousin was on the 1994 Olympic team that undeservedly lost in the shootout to the Swedes. I'm still bitter about that one.

Yeah, it was rubbish. Holland deserved better in '94. I thought Brazil were thoroughly undeserving winners in the '98 semi as well.

The real shocker for me is how they didn't beat their old enemy in 1974. They toyed with them and tried to embarrass West Germany at home. Not a good thing to do - making Germans angry.

Penalties in hockey is just stupid. I HATE the shootout.
But soccer, I don't know if there's any other way? They can't go on and on and on.
I don't want to start taking players off the field or counting corners either.

That goal Seaman let in was just heartbreaking

you saw it coming the second Ronaldinho took the free kick and Seaman started backpedaling

the departing on penalties is par for the course now though, I prepare myself for a loss starting around the 110th minute because I know where its headed

Looking back its kind of funny that the 06 team was supposedly the golden generation, this year's team is miles better I think

Why cant they go on and on?
Then it becomes a test of will and fitness.

Id rather the team with the better mental toughness win then bowing out over a duffed penalty.

It's kind of weird for me. I'm not a huge fan of penalties and I loath it when England end up in a shootout as it inevitably ends badly. However, Liverpool have done really well in shootouts winning two European cups that way, winning a league cup and an FA Cup. I can only hope after all the misery that England's luck from the spot is going to change.

This video is testament to the fact that they can actually have a successful outcome in them though.
