I wouldn't say our playoff hopes are dashed.
The 05/06 Flames started 4-7-2 and won the division. Mostly on the back of Kipper but just like a losing streak this team could go on a winning streak.

Look who their coach and goalie were that year.. huge downgrades right now vs Sutter and Kipper.

Okay, that was exact point...Miller was bragging about calling the Flames not being good enough (although he called them a bottom 5 team and they lost in round 2 with a division win). It's pretty easy to call a team not winning. If you are always negative you will eventually be "right"
Honestly it was a joke at my expense not a shot at you guys

Goalie has been really good, run support not so much
The goals for stats with Markstom in net dating back to last season are crazy. 2 or less in 25% of games...it's insane

The team now has to play sustained +.600 hockey to even get in the playoff conversation.
Based on the last 90 games of this group, what exactly gives you the idea they are suddenly going on a prolonged winning streak, let alone a sustained high level of play?
They will undoubtedly get better but is that even a plus - likely just enough to get to the fringes of buying or selling at the deadline again.

True and good point but hes definitely no Kipper so can't steal that many wins to get on a run. Kipper would always start slow and have a great November/December. Cant see Marky doing the same but he has been decent, i will agree.

I predicted this off-season that we are going to see Nurse and Kane suddenly become more noticeable again. With Lucic in the lineup, I didn't even really notice those guys. First game without Lucic, suddenly Kane is running around doing his best impression of Mike Tyson in his prime, and Nurse is throwing punches before a scrum even starts.
There are two ways to respond - you either have a tougher guy to go and send the message (Flames don't have that) or you make them pay with a PP goal or two (Flames did score 2 PP goals, but their PP and overall goal scoring capability is limited).
The problem with the Flames is that there probably isn't a more 'general' team in the NHL at the moment. Not fast, not skilled, not offensive, not defensive, not tough and hard to play against... they have nothing going for themselves right now. You can't point at them and say that they are any one single specific thing. The way you compensate that is by making sure that your team is the most hard working team every night, and we certainly can't even say that right now.
I do think that teams are going to start noticing how weak the Flames are physically, and how weak the PP is, and are going to realize that demoralizing the Flames won't be so difficult. Maybe I am over-reacting. I guess we will see.

After watching the effort level over the last few games, and the fact that our so called permium players are playing like this is a family roller skate at the thunder dome. I can only call them cowards. Disappointments and cheaters.

That group completely caved in the first round too.
Not to worry though this group has no chance of going on any run. They are what they look like they are.
In regards to the game though I’m still pissed. The Flames and Oilers finally get an outdoor event which was long overdue. A great chance for both fan bases to celebrate their teams in this province and of course the Flames couldn’t hold their end. They were absolute trash leading in and even worse in the game itself. I know the Oilers were bad to but they at least they had the excitement of 97 returning and the hope that their teams season start was just a blip. Even before the game my excitement for this event was zapped from the dark cloud this group created for themselves. I would’ve 100% found away to go if I thought the Flames would give a competitive/entertaining effort instead I choose not to waste my time and money. This is the most Hopeless Flames team I have witnessed and the POS Kane said it all
“What is anyone here going to do” ….what a slam!

This is my concern, and I think we are already seeing it.
The St Louis guys were laughing at them. Same with the Oilers. The Rangers weren't overt about it, but that may be because the Flames outscored them 11-1 last year - I think it took them longer to realize that this team has no teeth.

Losing Valimaki for nothing was a major blunder by this organization that no one talks about.

He was never going to play with Sutter here.
He was mistake prone in every game I watched big blunders that you notice.
Some of it might have been because of how hard Sutter was on him.

Couldn't agree more. That's why I was negative, as I knew that core wasn't going to do well.
It comes as no surprise it's the usual suspects going on the offensive in this thread. You can dish it, but you can't take it.

Huska's "well, we were good at points in the second period" analysis post game is pretty hilarious. Can't say "we got our ass handed to us" after every post game, like he did after the Detroit loss, I guess. Next I expect, "if we could just take that five minute stretch where we played well and stretch that out to a full 60 minute effort and not #### the bed... we might have something."

You talking to me?
I'm taking it just fine.
Just pointing out you can be rather extreme and people are bound to push back on that.
Don't think many Flames fans are pushing back on what we are seeing.

Maybe a bad choice of words ... sure.
Over the top though, and it's plain to pretty much anyone.
I have a pretty decent history of playing well with others that I'm happy to stand on.
