It didn't look like the greatest defensive effort in Seattle. Besides being greatly outshot, it looked like Seattle had a number of wide open scoring chances. The first goal for Seattle was a bit of "this guy scored" moment, and the second one with Beniers wide open on the PP eight feet in front of the net. Hard to blame Vladar on either of those.

Morin and Duehr were the standouts in Calgary. Tough night for Wolf but that’s the life of a goalie, get him back in soon and he will bounce back. Absolutely hate to see that play on Pelletier.. fingers crossed he’s ok.
Honzek had that very nice rush to the outside that turned some very good defenders in Dunn and Larsson and created the grade A chance for Dube. Based on the game scores it looks like the trio of Coronato, Sharangovich and Ruzicka struggled with the back to backs and travel on game day which makes perfect sense - especially at this stage in camp. That’s a tough task.
Hard to figure out the full forward lineup with Pelletier going down. Not sure who is going to fill a couple of gaps. Defence looks like it will be pretty solid. Goaltending looks fairly steady so far as well.
Interesting to see how the Flames’ shooters are going wide then cutting in across the top of the circle, and then coming down the middle. Making the goalie adjust from a wide angle to middle, while leaving plenty of time and space to see what they have to work with.
That adjustment may leave the goalie a touch less than perfectly positioned, giving a slight advantage to the shooter
Edit: wonder if Marc Savard is suggesting this as an option

At this point I don't care who it is. Just give us an average save percentage that starts with a .9
I have all the confidence in the word that the adjustments to D zone coverage will see you satisfied against this very low bar
They appear to really have been leaving space when appropriate and giving a bit more outside in favour of protecting the higher percentage scoring areas

Probably been suggested a million times but Sutter only liked north/south
I can't imagine the bankruptcy court is jazzed to see Biosteel still advertising in the shootout of a professional hockey game.
Biosteel is in CCAA, not bankruptcy (and a Ch. 15 in the US, which is similar creditor protection). Which means they are still in business, and supposedly trying to do a financial restructuring to be approved by their creditors.
Plus, if they prepaid for the ads before, they’d get the ads even in a bankruptcy.

Hot take, but I think he’ll end up better than Honzek
Not that hot of a take.
With prospects, it's all about progression, and can they handle the next level? Morin isn't huge, or blazing fast, but his IQ is elite and he sees the game really well. He had no problem dominating in junior, but can he handle bigger and faster opponents?
He is just entering his 18yo season, and he still looks like a kid physically, and yet he looked poised and comfortable, playing against professionals and men for the first time, last night. That is a huge step in progression for him.
He is going to tear the Q apart, and he may have to get bumped up to a higher level, sooner rather than later.
No concerns with Wolf. Goalies are just more visible when there's some preaseason rust. He will for sure get more games with the big club this year. I wonder if there's anyway they could split 10-20-52 between Wolf/Vladar/Marky? Play dependent of course, but what do you guys think a good split would be?
I think Savard is going to be a great fit here. Loved his post game interview - sounds like he's having a lot of fun. Really hoping this new coaching staff sticks, because this team needs some stability on that front. Huska seems pretty easy going but also intense. Obviously Xs and Os matter, but often it seems coaches really need the right "vibe" for lack of a better word. I keep coming back to Gulutzan where from the very beginning it just felt like he was putting on a show and the players saw right through it. That guy was so smug. Huska feels very real. Some early success will really help with buy in.
Some good hockey in both games, but also a lot needing cleaned up. Not worried about Wolf at all, but losing Pelletier has got to sting for the kid. He was probably looking forward to a regular spot this season. I hope he isn't out long term.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, Solovyov looking really good. I hope he keeps it going.

He reminds me a little of Brodie. I didn't know much about him coming out of the draft, but all the pundits seemed to agree he was a steal at his position. It sure is nice having him and Poirier coming down the pipe.
