That game we lost 4-3 to the Islanders sticks out Huberdeau and Backlund played together and that was when he looked comfortable but also got injured. He made a great play to set up a goal and another play.

They never went back to until the end of the season.

Another head scratching move by the coaches.

I'm convinced something happened there behind the scenes between players and it had more of a bearing on the season than we will ever hear. Remember Sutter after the move saying that "Lindy is our best player and he needs to like who he is playing with"?

Then later he said something like "Kadri and Huberdeau are professionals and they need to figure it out" about them playing together.

Something feels rotten behind the scenes and I think it was an issue between players. They never looked like they were having fun together and some blame coaching but to me the big give away that it was something else behind the scenes is they didn't seem to have each other's backs or fight for each other like they did last year. They never felt like a team thtlat would go to war for each other. Some guys did like Zadorov, Weegar and Tanev but that's about it I feel.

To the above the only team photo I seen Kadri in was the Christmas one which is odd but Halloween the birthdays he didn't seem to be in them. Huberdeau seems to be in them all except Christmas.

Yeah and the way he quit on the team....

Something really stinks and I doubt we will ever hear the extent of it but think of all the changes and personalities swapped out at once in the locker room. It really feels like there was some conflict going on in there.

Weegar was great the second half and I would like him to get a letter because he seems like a leader. I'm glad Huberdeau came along the last twenty games and found a way to play in the system just like Johnny and Tkachuk. But Kadri, woof... Not sure what they can do with him.

I think the stink is Kadri. I still can see the look of disgust on his face when they asked him out playing with Walker and Dube.

After that he just flat out quit on the team.

Not sure what his problem was or is.

I think that he was told when he was signed, that he would be a #1B centre. Any inkling that he is less than that, or god forbid put on the third line, and he pouts. That's based on nothing but my own observations about his play in the second half. He could have also had a hangnail.

Not sure if this played a factor in his play during the last little bit, but something to consider is that Ramadan was from March 22nd to April 20th. If he was fasting during that time it would be exceptionally hard on him to be at 100%.

Just a thought, who knows?

He was not fasting he was asked about it and said its too difficult to play hockey without water.

From my understanding is that you can make up those days you do not fast.

I know this is a Huberdeau thread, but the coach had to be seeing these issues as well with Kadri. I certainly wonder why Nazem was not put on the wing at times this season. He was battling something. Whether that be injury, fatigue, being at odds with the coach, etc.. his play down the middle of the ice was putrid. Poor effort, zero vision, an inability to use his teammates and buy into the system. It would have been prudent to put him on the wing to allow him to find his game and rhythm in a position that didn't involve so many responsibilities. Hell this was even his worst year in the faceoff circle that he's had in 8 years. Surprised it wasn't even looked at.

They had 2 separate stints together and in my opinion, they looked terrible in both.

To me, I don't think they're a match made in heaven and I knew right from the start that they wouldn't gel. Lindholm isn't the type of center that pushes the pace or dominates play through the middle of the ice, he along with Toffoli check for their chances which is not an area that Huberdeau excels at.

Conversely, that's why Lindholm worked so well with Gaudreau, Johnny pushes the pace especially through the middle of the ice and is able to hold on to pucks and make plays which allowed Lindholm to find quiet areas of the ice to unleash his one timer in the slot.

If Huberdeau wants to produce with Lindholm and Toffoli next season, then he needs to up the pace of his play, develop a stronger stick, close gaps quicker on the forecheck and be tougher along the boards/wall.

This is why I thought Huberdeau and Kadri would click, but it didn't. It seemed like no matter who played with Huberdeau, the results were disappointing.

How does Mathew Tkachuk’s dream season affect Huberdeau? Does watching Tkachuk’s playoff heroics taking the Panthers to the finals motivate Huberdeau or does it mess with his head?
