I spoke with him for 5 minutes at the development camp right after he was drafted and I could tell that he'd never play for Calgary based off his attitude and demeanour.

There is a whole other discussion pertaining to Fox if Tree knowingly blew a second round pick on this guy (who had no intentions of ever signing here ) Kinda a bit like Russian Roulette - Brad Edition, only in this instance it worked out in his favor.

Cant say I dont expect it from this GM.

Edit : 3rd Round pick. meh If Brad could do what he did with Fox every time there is a stud on the board that didn't want to play here (Turn them into 1st line Centre and a top 4 D) I would be in favor.

2nd edit: Did not know Jordan Kyrou was picked with the flames "pick" that was traded to St.Louis for Brian Elliot.

The Islanders wanted Fox in the Hamonic trade per Friedman.

They asked for 1st, Fox, another pick. Treliving refused.

Trade ended up being 1st, 2nd, 2nd.

I would say at that time Treliving still had hope that Fox would sign with the Flames.

Well, yes. But the claim I was addressing was this notion that it was widely known at the Draft that Fox would only sign in NY. This is false.

Even if it was rumoured, since it would never be known for a certainty that he wouldn’t sign, it would still be worth it to “waste” a pick on him if the Flames were that high in him.

Worth the risk to draft him and worry later about trying to convince him to stay or use him as a trade chip, which we did.

So basically there’s no scenario where Tre messed up or made a mistake. It was a good pick regardless.

The more likely story is that Fox in his draft year may have told teams that he would most likely spend the full 4 years playing for Harvard.

I doubt he straight up told teams he was only playing for the Rangers.

I didn't know he was wanted by the Islanders for Hamonic, wonder if he would have signed there.

He said he wanted to play in New York...

You're thinking of the other defenceman the Flames drafted who refused to sign until his rights were traded to the Rangers.

He's actually probably thinking of Rasmus Andersson, whose dad played for the Rangers.

I am more happy to see Kylington turn into a potential top 4 defenceman instead of disappointment over Fox.

I can’t believe how well he is playing. It’s found money.

As much as I dump on Treliving about poor asset management, you take the player. It was a good selection. Opportunities change, people change, and at worst, the player doesn’t develop or they are traded for assets.

But these are the picks that get tossed away on rentals instead of being used like this.

Cousins of Tim and Jan right? Speaking of Tim, that stuck up guy is now out of the NHL and in Europe. We got two seconds out of that trade but they have evaporated into nothing at this point.
