Tkachuk hasn't been playing at a 7m+ contract, much less being qualified for over 9m+. I honestly don't think the team misses a beat with him gone, they'll still play the same way they have now and get results as a team.
My ideal would be: Tkachuk, 2022 1st (not protected if that's the hold up), Valimaki (obviously Zadorov would be amazing but who are we kidding), any two non 1st round picks outside of Wolf.

Didn't laugh at this one though, as it reflects my concerns about the trade:

It seems natural that he would distinguish a former first round pick from other prospects who were not selected in the first round.

I tend to think he refers to former 1st round pick as a current roster player who was a first rounder.

Exactly. But I would also think a player who is younger than Tkachuk—it would make no sense to describe Monahan, Zadorov, Gudbranson or Backlund as a "former first round pick" in this context.
It seems clearly to be Valimaki.

I think the media is being used by one of the teams to get things moving. Did Buffalo leak Tkachuk’s name to get Vegas to up ante? Did Calgary do this to see what the mood of the fan base with respect to Tkachuk?
