Lake Louise is a better hill full stop, but you are paying more there than at Nakiska. If you think you are really just hanging out at the magic carpet and shorter green runs, you could be better off at Nakiska. But I am cheap, so perhaps that isn't a concern.

He just wants to get back to LL so he can show his kid where we terrified him 25 years ago on Whitehorn. Was that you who took the tumble? Fuzzy memory.

No tumble for me, but I do remember a few 3R weekend road trips (which is close to the last time I was skiing)

i was at LL friday and thought the conditions were great. The wife and I had 12 laps in between about 8.45 and 11.15. then went for a nice lunch upstairs in the lodge and the legs were heavy for the afternoon session.
Friday was the fist time ever I feel like i skiied continuously right from Top of the World to the lodge.
Persoanlly i like the juniper chair. Generally a short line up and the lift ride is short. Can get in lots of easy laps. The runs off the chair are generally not overly busy and i like the juniper run itself.
i think you need a lot of speed to come from one of the berry runs to get right to the lodge itself. you can easily get back to the juniper lift with a moderate amount of speed

I bought a pass this year to LL on the advice of my best friend who swears by it and is also getting back into the sport after a long absence. We have gone up a bunch of times and the conditions have been mostly subpar on my end. I am used to Sunshine with their volume of snow which even in this down year, has a lot more snow than LL.
I am wondering how much of an occurrence this lack of snow for LL is? What's strange for me is given how little snow they have, they haven't even done a decent job of making any on the lower part of the run's! It's all ice and thin, really thin !
One thing I do like though is that the pass to LL also includes their summer gondola form my understanding? Does this mean I get to ride up for free and hike the mountain for free? Anybody know where I can find a trail map, couldn't find anything on the site. That is a huge plus for sure if that's accurate.
Going up tomorrow, hopefully a good day!

This is a total outlier year. I've never seen the snow worse. Sunshine generally (always?) gets more, but their terrain isn't as good and runs aren't as long. Plus a lot more ####ing around before you're actually riding due to taking the gondola to just the base of the lifts.
For the summer chair, I think you only get access with that for the summer preceding your winter season pass. That is, if you buy your season ski pass for the 23/24 season in spring 2023, you can access the summer lift in summer 2023. They do this to incentivize you to purchase next year's season pass this year.
To my knowledge, your season pass for skiing in the 22/23 season you currently have will not get you access to the lift in the summer of 2023. No harm in double checking that, though.
Manmade snow always turns icy. They've done a fine job, but really you want to use the manmade stuff to build a base, which they have done. The issue is there hasn't been much natural snow to mix in/pile on top, so yeah, the snow sucks.
Really bad luck to have bought your pass for this season, though. I'm feeling the burn, too.
Another thing I've noticed about this year is I find a lot of the runs to be actually dangerous. Not sure if that's just my old-man brain kicking in, but there are some crazy rocks that come out of nowhere that could really injure a guy just in the middle of runs, not to mention in the trees. If you time a fall wrong you're on your way home in an ambulance. Normally they'd have a bunch of these rocks marked with an "X" made from bamboo sticks, but I'm not sure there's enough bamboo in all of China to mark all the rocks this year so they've just said, #### it.

And then after a day there you end up feeling grateful we have any snow at all. Every single chair I ride up with is a group from the UK since there's no snow in Europe. We have it bad, but I guess it could be worse hah.

I assume it's been a bit better after the recent couple snowfalls to fill things in a bit? I'm going to head up on the weekend.

Sunshine was trash on Saturday. Revy got 40 cms this weekend though. Probably great there.

I was there yesterday, Louise is beat. I went to my hidden pow spots, just boney.
Go west. Go to Baker. They got over a foot a couple days ago, and have more on the way. Fly to Abbotsford, stay at a Best Western, & rent a Corolla.

if you have a pass for LL for the current season, you will be able to access it this summer.
last summer they ran the glacier chair and you hike from there.
We hoofed it from there up some trails that lead to where the gondola drops you off. It was a solid workout getting up there.
Once we were up there, we were rewarded with great views of the backside, and an unbelievable amount of horse/deerflys that bite hard as they rip at your flesh even thru clothing and are undeterred by bug spray. it must be real fund working on the lifts there in summer
I could see traisl that run off towards the backside of LL.
I believe there is a summer map on the ski louise website

Fernie has been pretty meh. Last year was worse though, mainly because of all the rain.
I can usually get 7-10 BIG pow days per season and so far this year I think I'm at maybe 3? Seems like I've been spending a lot of time searching for stashes instead of the usual low hanging fruit off the chair.
Hopefully March delivers.

Nah, I'm only going to be cruising groomers anyway. I'm just surprised that the last couple of weeks didn't fix things. Looks like they'll be getting about 5cm tonight, which is something, I guess.

And just like that I looked outside and it's raining as high as White Pass load.
4 degrees at the base. Yay.
Go to Sunshine or Louise.

If you are going to LL to ski the groomers they are just fine. We stick to greens/blues on the front side and they were all great on Friday.
We skied of larch for a bit as well and the backside was a little looser but the ground is covered. We accessed the backside from the gondola via pika.
It was also fine.

The price point of LL is a huge deterrent for me especially if you are hitting groomers. Wouldn’t hurt to explore Norquay Spetch.
