I wonder if we could trade Lucic and Monahan without taking much back. Then sign Ritchie, Landeskog, and offersheet Pettersson.

Just know that they are going to sign Stone again this summer.
If you believe in the upside of Valimaki then he needs to get the Tanev treatment this season to help him progress his game.

They don't play the same position.
Stone is by far a better option on the right side.

Schmidt on paper was suppose to be better than tanev, but it didn't work out.
Edler on the other hand is way past his expiration date. Think about it this way, the Canucks desperately want to upgrade the defence and were letting a Canuck lifer sitting on 99 goals walk.
He's a lot slower, his shot is gone, injuries, those should be red flags for any team looking to sign him.

Barrie is not signing for ,4x4. If that was all it took he would still be with the tire fire.

While we are signing with Edler, may be we need to bring here Pettersson and Boeser from the Canucks as well.

Edler is still a very good d-man. Many worse options on the D market

uh, not exactly what happened
Would have cost the Flames Hanifin, Anderson, or Tanev...or a 1st to keep Gio plus 6.75M
Edler has zero cost to obtain and hopefully less than half the cap hit

Not getting into should or whatnot, but Kylington and Stone do play the same position. Kylington is like Brodie - has played the RD position most of his life, and feels the most comfortable there.

Mark Staal just re-signed 1 year $2M; would be good if Edler could be had for similar

I would go 8.5x7 for Landeskog and definitely regret it eventually.

I for sure would not want Edler for 3 years. I will say he is good defensively, and I bet that he moves the puck better than Tanev, but he has no offence to speak of any longer. Adding him to a group that already has offensive issues already, when he is 35, for 3 years is questionable. I wouldn't mind him for a 1 year stop-gap if the Flames couldn't find someone decent defensively with a bit more range offensively. 3 years makes me uncomfortable.
