Ritchie has been known to be a floater
If ever Sutter could take that out of his game we would have a keeper.
This almost feels like an automatic that he signs here though.

I'm not sure having two brothers on the team is always a good thing.

After the weirdness of the Hamilton brothers on the team (mostly having to carry Freddie, who was not good) I am fully against having brothers on the team.
Unless they're twins, and elite... and even then... I would hate them.

Boston didn’t qualify him at $2 million so not sure why people think he’s getting close to $4 million.
He might get $3 milllion as I think there might be a bidding war. I could see the Flames, Canucks, Oilers, Vegas, Seattle all having interest. This is all because of the presence of Lucic and Reaves in division.
Nick is gonna decide if he wants to tango with Lucic and Reaves on a regular basis or be their teammate.
Might be better for him to sign out east.

I think as long as they are BOTH serviceable players in the NHL then it is fine. The Hamilton Brothers did not fit this invoice.
I can't imagine a team would be giving him 4m after not being qualified, good for him if he does.
If Nick does come here I don't expect a whole lot of offense anyway, just hit stuff, mean mug and punch faces like Brett then get off the ice.

Now they need to get Gaudreau, and Ritchie. To make things interesting for the broadcasters. If McDavid can be on the ice for 30mins, so can J.Gaudreau and F.Gaudreau.
Now a as for Ritchie being a Flame, for me it’s an acquisition I can see happening a couple of weeks into free agency, if the price is right. In fact, I prefer that the Flames target one top 4 D, and a top 6 F and see which players are left without a team when the dust settles. Granted there will be more cap space to go around, but I think you can get someone in a similar situation to Barrie/Hoffman/Toffoli this last off season.
Edit: oops thought it was the Ritchie thread, so did everyone else it seems.

My “twice as much” was a bit of an exaggeration, but a QO just would have gotten them into arbitration and 26 points in 56 games is a pretty solid base for getting a big raise from $1.5 (actual cash was $2M).
I could see the Leafs adding him.

Forgot who said it a few pages back, but it was interesting.
That Calgary won't be rebuilding, and with that they'll have to add, and the only way to do it is to give up assets in a trade, or to over pay.
I think that's pretty fair.
Could be that we can no longer judge UFA signings in some of these cities vs the average contract that say 20 teams would have gotten.
Makes me think of the Hyman thing a little differently, and the Coleman rumour as well.
Big thing going forward is to get a good player if you're going to overpay, and not a boat anchor.
You can't add Brouwer and Neal with an overpay.
Hopefully if Coleman is the guy they pay 750K and one extra year more for a player that is good, but not as good as his contract.
Columbus, Calgary, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Ottawa ... probably others.

If Coleman signs here God help us all. Sounds like there is a huge amount of interest. It might match that of the Hyman deal which I want nothing to do with

There are better options out there than Coleman…we really should only be looking at good value contracts that run 2 to 3 years right now and fit within the Sutter window. Guys like Getzlaf at 2.5 wouldn’t be nearly as bad as Coleman at 5.5 for the next 6 years.

I don’t really dislike Coleman per se. But I loathe 6*5M, the predicted contract. No huge contracts for 30 year olds!
