I once landed in Istanbul Attaturk Airport at like 1 AM, with a flight out of Sabiha Gokcen that left at like 5AM iirc. Those airports serve the same city, but are on different continents on opposite sides of the Bosporus.
I had done a bunch of research on how long it took to get between them, but hadn't accounted for the time change that occurred while we were in transit between the two places. We arrived at the airport with what we thought was plenty of time to spare and barely made the flight.

I found this article. Apparently permanent DST was tried in 1974 in the US. It was supposed to be a 2 year trial, but was ended less than a year later. In the fall of 1974 they went back to switching the clocks.

I feel like the proper solution is after Daylight Saving Time becomes permanent, the separate jurisdictions then decide among themselves what time zone they should be in. For example, does it make sense for Michigan to stay in the Eastern Time Zone? I think probably not.

I'm interested to hear why you would think that Michigan shouldn't be in the eastern time zone. It seems pretty fine and appropriate to me.

The sun wouldn't rise until after 9am in January in Michigan if permanent DST time was adopted according to this:

The later the sun rise the better. Nothing worse then in summer waking up at 530am and the sun light is already on the full offensive to your eyes. I'm a slow riser in the morning I like being able to wake up with the sun or earlier then it does. Way easier in the eyes and I feel much more productive. People who want it bright at the ass crack of the morning weird me out. Why??

permanent standard time would mean 4:22am sunrise on the first day of summer. that sounds like very unusable and wasted sunlight to me.

Lemme guess, next you're gonna claim that above the 66th parallels the sun doesn't even rise in the winter? Pfft, nice troll job, you anti-standard-timer.

The days are just too damn short in the winter regardless of what the clock says.

A Central Time Zone Detroit in permanent Daylight Saving Time would have a sunrise of 8:01 AM and sunset of 5:10 PM versus 9:01 AM and 6:10 PM.
New York City, for example, would be 8:21 AM in Eastern Time Zone permanent Daylight Saving. Boston would be 8:13 AM. It's just the states and cities on the western fringes of the time zones which are more affected. You also wonder if more jurisdictions might go to a half-hour time zone like Newfoundland if Daylight Saving Time becomes permanent.

I know I could golf 9 holes after work 12 months a year with permanent daylight savings time. I don’t even know when the sun comes up except when it annoys me in the summer when I’m still trying to sleep.

Just do what I do and wear a blindfold to sleep. Now, even in the summer on a weekend if I sleep in, my room can be super bright and I wouldn't notice a thing till I wake up.

So stupid that we’re still doing this to get the daylight for the morning as opposed to when it could be useful. But regardless, I’m glad that we have clock that doesn’t change automatically…makes me realize that the others have all changed and I don’t have to question it.

I will enjoy the extra month of morning daylight instead of the useless evening light.

Dozed off on the couch last night and woke up at 1:17am. Very annoyed that I couldn’t tell if it was the first 1:17 or the second 1:17. Did I get the extra hour before or after that? Schrödinger’s DST.
