I'd rather have that type of guy, than another forward on a team that is already doing pretty well on that front. Especially in the playoffs. It's always why I'd hesitate to trade Stone (even if he was healthy).
|
I'd rather see Andersson take Hamonics place, he shouldn't be on the third pairing. We also have a solid 5/6 dman in stone who's not playing and Kylington who is ready and able.
I'd prefer not to trade Bennett but TO would probably want him, if they would take Dube and a pick or something that would be fine too.
You're not going to get Nylander for spare parts , your gonna have to give up some solid pieces, which, the Flames have. (That aren't totally vital to the team success.)
Giordano-Brodie
Hanifin-Andersson
Is a very solid top 4. Brodano is easily one of the best top pairings in the league. Hanifin is looking great as of late and Andersson has all season.
Valimaki-Stone
That's a solid third pairing too. Not not to mention we have Kylington too.

Your right, my mistake. I didn't realize that. So he has no leverage at all then. If I'm Dubas I'm feeling pretty good where I'm at then. I'm not trading his rights to make the December 1st dealine. Better to get him re-upped either this year or next, and trade his contact with Term on it to get some value out of the asset.

Jankowski+andersson+1st is the highest I would go. Hamonic and Bennett is a non-starter. We need that grit in our lineup.
Janko and andersson are both great pieces to build on, and are cost controlled. The 1st is gravy. The problem becomes a cap crunch on our side but that's something we can figure out.

I believe it was on one of Duhatcheks ariticles on the Athletic but when the Flames-Leafs were discussing Hamilton at the draft that non of the “big 3” forwards were on the table for Toronto.
End of the day the Flames got a better trade out of Carolina

Frolik is the only movable high salary we have at forward. I'd rather not move Janko, it would be Dube for me.
Dube,Frolik,Andersson and a 1st could work possibly,
Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Neal-Jankowski-Nylander
Tkachuk-Backlund-Bennett
Those are an insane top 3 lines that you could roll all night long. And you Keep the TBB line together

A Lindholm, Johnny and Nylander would be a fast dangerous line.

Which is understandable on the Leafs’ end, they would have greatly needed Nylander as insurance in case Tavares didn’t sign with them. Just wasn’t the right timing for both parties and the Flames ultimately made a bigger blockbuster deal with Carolina that really benefited us better long term.

Certainly for Calgary it does, but Toronto can likely do better than a collection of stuff when multiple teams will be in on the bidding.

I don't get the fascination with Nylander. He is a very good offensive forward but we score goals like gang busters, we don't need him and certainly not at the expense of our D. The Flames are not trading Hammer, he is a solid two way D that does oodles for charity. He is exactly the type of player this organization loves. Would the Flames be a better team with Nylander? Sure. Would the Flames be a better team with Nylander minus Hamonic and Bennett? No way.

Trade another first round pick? One 3rd round pick in two years of drafts potentially? Seeing the impact Tkachuk, Andersson, Valimaki and Dube are having this year should make it clear how important it is to have players on their ELC contributing. All 2nd round picks are higher.

I really don't think Hamilton had the value that some think he did or has. Many Flames fans saw the flaws in his game, and if we can see it, so should the NHL executives who get paid to assess.
I'd be surprised if Hamilton was acquired by the Leafs in a Nylander deal. Kid would get eaten alive by the media and fans there. He'd probably retire before his contract ends.
Leafs probably want Slavin from the Canes in a Nylander deal.

I want the flames to be favorites, not contenders. Gaudreau, TKachuk, Lindholm, Nylander as your top 6 wingers is drool worthy. As in, best in the league, easily.
|
But they wouldn't be after the trade. Why do you think the Leafs are so desperate for a solid defenseman?
(spoiler: because they are vital)
You win in the playoffs with depth on defense. And people want to trade our #3 D-man, simply because a couple kids are taking a regular shift in November?
Think about what our D would look like if Giordano got hurt...
Hanifin - Brodie
Valimaki - Andersson
Kylington - Stone
That D cannot win a single playoff game.
But hey! we'd have the smallest, softest 1st line in the league up front!

I wouldn’t trade Hanifin for Nylander 1 for 1 and I wouldn’t really be interested in a Lindholm for Nylander either. I think Hamilton had fantastic value. He was packaged with a forward with one 20 goal season and a previous career high of 25pts. We also add a former 3rd round prospect that is a legit flight risk for any non Boston/NY based franchise. We got 2 former 5th overall picks.
I think the Flames were hesitant of moving Hamilton and creating a massive hole on the backend. Sounds like they had a lot of Hamilton irons in the fire (Toronto, Philly, Carolina at least). It looks like they targeted a top 6 forward and a Dman in return.
I agree with you on the last point and if the Canes traded Dougie less than 40 games into his time there it would be horrible optics for the player. I don’t see any chance Slavin is on the table in a Nylander deal but Pesce has been rumored and I could see a packagae deal between the teams if Nylander doesn’t sign in Toronto

I'm not sure hes what we need. I'm actually pretty happy with what we have...We need more out of James Neal but if he gets going and Rittich continues to play the way he has the team is in a good spot.

i like Nylander, but considering the asking price from TO, his contract demands and the fact that calgary is playing so well, i am surprised how many ppl want to acquire him...
Tkachuk and Bennett (i believe) are up for contracts this year... combined they end up being 11-12 million you'd think... taking on Nylander at say another 8 million isn't something i'd want...

The current group that the Flames have on the ice seems to be functioning quite well. Don't know if taking a guy like Hamonic out to replace him with Nylander would work as well as the numbers seem to suggest.
Ultimately I think the Leafs wait Nylander out till the last minute and he caves. In his case, it's going to be too hard for him to get back the lost money for sitting out an entire year. He could sign in the KHL for money on a short term deal but he's still taking long term injury risk in that case.

I still dont get why so many want Nylander on the Flames.
He fills a need that doesn't exist, and to acquire him will cost a lot in both assets and cap room coming to a summer the team will need both.
Shiny new toy syndrome?
