Meh. The Flames have had to contend with better Sharks rosters than the current one with Tavares. I think he's a great player but he's one of those guys that will not be able to afford losing a step so there's the chance of his contract becoming an albatross one day. Besides competition breeds greatness and if the Flames are going to depend on the rest of the teams in the division being bad then the Flames have bigger issues than Tavares signing in San Jose.

I don't know. There seems to be a lot of pissing matches between Oilers and Leafs fans on HF. Oilers fans seem to be a little sensitive when Matthews receives more attention than McDavid.

If the Leafs do sign Tavares imagine how Dubas will be feeling. Talk about a great start as a new GM. Leave the Marlies as a champion come to the Leafs and sign Tavares in free agency.

Less than an hour until midnight Eastern. Will he get an 8 year deal done to stay on the Island, or will he go elsewhere? If he picks somewhere else, how much longer will this drag out?

I know a lot being made out of the 8 year deal option with NYI and the 12am deadline, but couldn't he just sign with the islanders for 7 years but for a higher average if he wanted too?

i mean, it sure looks like he's going to leave now, but i was just curious if that was still an option he could look at

He could, but the lower cap hit would help provide a small amount of extra cap room for the Islanders to put a team around him. Hard to know what both sides are pushing for.
