Nope. A direct flight would be YYC-YVR-SEA all operating under the same flight number.
Non-Stop: YYC-SEA

Yes. But direct flights are not necessarily non stop.

Article from the Seattle Times today.
https://www.seattletimes.com/busines...nner-heats-up/
The infographic on flight times is kind of annoying. Toronto is the only city in Canada that they show.

I found this interesting from that article:
Quote:
Kevin Boeh, a former technology investment banker and corporate consultant, thinks Amazon will put a priority on quick travel between the two headquarters. He’s done some research to back up the wisdom of such a move.
A study of the performance of Japanese firms’ U.S. subsidiaries over more than a decade found that, all else being equal, an extra hour of travel time from headquarters to a subsidiary means that unit has a 7 percent lower chance of turning a profit.

If true, that bodes well for Calgary.
My guess, however is Austin, Denver or Atlanta will be the eventual winner.

That seems like a very very long flight.

It is. But Atlanta is also a regional transportation hub, a jump-off point to other destinations (including Washington, DC which is a preference for Amazon), and has a burgeoning tech sector.

The only thing is that Denver and Austin are still a little bit far away from Seattle if the travel time is a concern. The whole Goldilock zone that they talked about would be much better served by Calgary.
There is also of course the cloud hanging over everybody of whether Trump starts up with his travel and deportation talk again.
Austin is a pretty modern and hip city though, so they have that going for them, as well as quite a few of the big tech. companies are located around there too to poach talent from. We have a lot of engineers and software developers here, but the transition from o&g centric products and servicse will be a learning curve, though not insurmountable. I still like our chances, just from the perspective of being in a different country through which to diversify / expand the empire even further.

Did anybody listen to Nenshi talk about the proposal? I don't have headphones so didn't listen to the live broadcast.

Believe me, Calgary Economic Development has tonnes of data. Highest head office concentration per capita in Canada, 5th most livable city in the world, 2nd highest small business concentration... there's plenty of data for Amazon to look at (the response to the pitch is over 200 pages long).

Looks like they really did their homework. A little bit of fun, a little bit of serious, advertisements in Seattle, data, etc.
Well done Calgary Economic Development, this is the type of campaign they needed to run to catch their attention.

If not Amazon, it's surely grabbed the attention of another company or two.

And I think that's one of the main goals. Reality says we won't get Amazon, but if Calgary can get onto a shortlist and get some media attention, it will put us on the radar for everyone else. It may not be someone on the scale of Amazon, but it doesn't necessarily have to be to help diversify our economy.

I think it definitely has latent / collateral benefits . . . getting the right message out - hitting the right targets (connected, informed young entrepreneurs) it would do a world of good.
I liked that they used memes as part of the marketing strategy too!
