$7M is a tonne, but not surprising.
$8.5 Lundqvist
$7.425 Bobrovsky
$7 Rinne
$7 Rask

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
If its a real possibility the Flames are better off taking back Bobrovsky to get the 3rd than give Bishop 7x7

Remember, this is a Vezina finalist. I'd be willing to pay 7, but not for 7 years.

I can live with $7/year, but not for 7 years.
5 years max.

A lot of goalies are great in their later years, but not all.
The problem with overpaying a goalie is that if they drop off, they are pretty much useless. With a forward or d-man, it's easier to find a role for them somewhere even if it means they are overpaid.

I would be ok with 6 years @ 7M. That takes him to 36, should still be very effective at that age. 7M per for a Vezina calibre goalie is not unexpected.

NO to trading #6
NO to 7x7
NO to Jimmy Howard
NO to trading #35 for Elliot (on expiring deal)
Would rather just sign Reimer.

Another thing with Bishop is that his current 2 year deal with Tampa has a NMC.
Flames brass has stated clearly that they will not give out NMC's anymore to anyone and are prepared to lose out on players because of it.
So if they trade for Bishop and look to sign an extension, he's not getting another NMC from the Flames with that extension. Just a limited NTC at best.

would it not makes sense for both the lightning and the flames to understand what it would take to make bishop a flame - so for the lightning that means understanding what the flames are willing to offer and for the flame sit means keeping the bish here for more than just next year.
are there any houses tall enough for the bish to fit in? retrofitting the showers? lots of moving parts here

Where did I say I have an issue with 7x7? I don't.
But i'm confident Brad can get him cheaper on less term.

Remember, they still have to sign Johnny and Monahan. Not enough money to go around.

Not sure I like that but he is a great tender.
Not sure how locking up a vezina nominated goaltender for 6 to 7 years doesn't cost us the 6

Yikes, if he wants 7x7 I pass on him now and see if we can get his rights for cheaper before the expansion draft.

7x7, sweet jeebus, that's a long one.
But you're getting a top 3 goalie in the league at his prime. Do it. I want a cup.

7x7? Heck no. Rather have Reimer at 4x4.

I’d rather have Ramo than Bishop at that price assuming his rehab is coming along fine and he is able to attend full training camp. And I’m not even joking. He can be had for ~$2.5M I bet

Assuming Johnny and Monahan take up about 14 in cap space, that leaves us with 9 (12 if you count Smid on LTIR) to spare for a goalie and all the other RFAs. Could always just choose not to qualify certain tweeners, or even buyout if things get desperate.

It would take him to 37 seeing as he has a year left on his contract.
However I agree i'd be fine with that contract
