Of Gregoire, or from Gregoire? The last infographics didn't say Gregoire had fires (yet). It would be very sad if it has spread to Gregoire.

My friend works for Syncrude, they're trying to airlift their employees out but the airspace is now closed.

What you're looking at is Gregoire, an industrial sub division in fort mcmurray. Welding shops, bus depots, gas stations, hotels, car dealership, equipment rentals, #### like that. A fair bit of damage in that area, but not people's homes. Other residential neighbourhoods, further to the left in the smoke, are up to 80% decimated.

Oh ok, that explanation makes sense. The right side outside of the smoke is Gregoire. Looks like Gregoire is entering the "some loss" range.

Some of these aftermath photos and videos make it look like a nuclear bomb went off. Pretty hard to process.

Baron. Why wouldn't they look at utilizing 1PPCLI from Edmonton. Were they not used during the Slave Lake fires and already have the training for this? Also as a self sufficient group they would not need the resources others would need (they bring most with them).

A 4 km circle of restricted airspace has been created, effective till noon Saturday, centered SW of Beacon Hill. If not actively participating in aerial fire suppression, special permission is required from the Fort McMurray Fire Centre to enter the area.

That looks like Gergoire, the intersection of 63 and the airport road. From what I have seen, the fire has not yet crossed the 63 from west to east into Gregiore but the shell and super 8 on the other side of the highway have burned down, along with the trailer park on that side of the road.

I'm late to the party here. This was a non existent story in the lower mainland until this morning.

This is hard to stomach. The aftermath pictures look like a nucleaur fallout.

What is most amazing to me about the video is how those green cable boxes are completely untouched.

Why aren't we building stuff out of that?

Video of a guy's last-second escape, presumably from yesterday: https://www.instagram.com/p/BE_by7VKiwx/

Looks like that was in Waterways, which had suffered "significant losses" by this morning.

My friend is currently sitting in a company bus waiting for the go ahead and go to the company's airspace. By the look of things, she will be waiting for a long time.

They're made out of these, recycled.
Spoiler!

It was incredibly frustrating seeing a 20 minute segment on BC global about the storms in Vancouver knocking down one tree and almost nothing on the fires in Fort McMurray

Pretty rough hearing the stories and seeing the pictures, that's my part of the country, grew up just 120 kms from McMurray and I spent countless hours swimming and fishing the Clearwater.

Glad to hear there were no casualties but it must have been horrible for some people who had to evacuate without going home to get their pets. I just hope the SPCA were able to save some of those animals.
