But man oh man did JDM kill it. Literally, figuratively and creatively!
|
I think that Negan will be around for a while. There is so much to explore with this new character & story line. Questions like how he keeps such a huge group of survivors loyal to him, what happened to him to bring him to this point? These are just some of the questions at the surface.
But we also need to consider what we learned from last season, in finding out that there are more communities of survivors, and at least with the Hilltop, we know that they are another group dominated by Negan's Saviours. How many more communities are there, and are they also dominated by the saviours?
From the season's trailer, and for those who watched Talking Dead far enough to see the teaser for next week's episode, we know that Carol & Morgan got rescued and taken to a community called the Kingdom, which means that we will be soon meeting King Ezekiel (from the trailer) and his tiger.
So honestly, the possibilities of where they can take the show from this point forward seems like there is enough material for them to explore with all of these new story lines that are developing.
And as for fear & deception having more longevity over fear & force...remember that this is happening much further along and it stands to reason that for this group to be this organized means that they have been doing this for a long time...much longer than the Governor was ever in power.

I never really liked the Abe character. I know the show is based on a graphic novel, but even then, he is too over the top as a caricature.

Let's also not forget that the people running the show like to give important characters memorable deaths. Glenn by far had the most memorable death to date, showing just how important he was.

Unfortunately, this is a storytelling move typical of The Walking Dead — a fourth-rate zombie movie stretched out over 83 hours that has produced just one halfway interesting antagonist for the heroes during its seven seasons, David Morrissey’s the Governor (Jon Bernthal’s Shane Walsh, an honest-to-goodness character whose complexity is still missed, was ultimately more of an antihero).

It's pretty obvious the reviewer was not a fan of the show going into the episode which kind of undermines any objectivity. I simply don't understand why anyone that has watched most episodes of a show that from day one has shown graphic dismemberments on a regular basis is all of a sudden turned off because the violence happened to main characters. If you don't like this kind of violence this show was never for you. Quite frankly the only thing this show should ever apologize for is occasional poor writing and acting.

When has there been some evidence that there's going to be a tiger in this show?

Promotion TV spots for the season has King Ezekiel introducing himself on a throne with a tiger roaring at his side.

King Ezekiel, you say? So is this thread just cool with spoilers now?

If it's from a source outside of the show, and hasn't appeared on the show yet, you can't post about it. Locke, I've watched every episode and have heard no mention of "King Ezekiel" and certainly not the fact that he has a tiger that's going to show up later on.
I've read the comics, the only thing you're spoiling for me is to what extent the show mirrors them. But others aren't in the same boat, and in any case, I'd rather watch the show as its own entity.

Any time you turn the channel to AMC , you see a commercial with a dude sitting on a throne with a huge tiger beside him. They discussed it on the Talking Dead episode as well.
It isn't a spoiler.

I must be going crazy, I could swear that there is a TV spot with Jesus telling Rick "theres something I have to tell you about King Ezekiel....he has a Tiger."
I remember discussing it because they made it identical to the comic panel that gets posted online constantly.

Maybe there's been a TV spot from an upcoming episode, or a sneak peek on TWD, or an end-of-episode preview, or in an article somewhere on the internet... but certainly not in past episodes of the show. I don't watch any of those things; I didn't know until I saw in this thread that any tigers or Kings Ezekiel would be making an appearance in future episodes.
I don't know why this is difficult for people to get a grasp on. Comments based on past episodes? Cool. Anything else? Not cool; go to the spoiler thread.

But him being spoken about on talking dead isn't giving away plot details. It's confirming a character is joining the show next week. One that has been featured in pretty much all the promotional vids for this season. He's even mentioned by name in the episode preview.
I don't read the graphic novels, so I have no idea who this dude is going to be. He could be good, bad, or whatever. But nothing any of these guys have posted comes anywhere near spoiling it for me. And heck, I generally go out of my way to avoid any information before air. I only watched the season 7 trailer last week.
But like I said, even I pieced together who this dude is from the limited information.

Oh. Really? Man, they're in the commercials of TWD when you watch it. I mean, when you watch it live and cant skip the commercials you watch this.
I see where you're coming from, I really do, but you're holding 'No Spoilers' to really hard, strict line.

I agree this is a bit of a grey area, but my line in the sand is as long as it has aired on AMC, and not as a slip-up by somebody on Talking Dead, then it is OK to discuss.
I tried to make the original rule as simple as possible. The intention was to make sure comic book spoilers don't make it into the thread.
We have discussed what was shown in the "next week on Walking Dead" previously, and we have also had the trailer from Comicon as well.

If you watched the season 7 premier there is literally no way you should have missed all the previews and promos for this season, which contains the mentioned character and scene.
In no realm do I consider that a spoiler.
