To me trading up doesn't make sense. Acquiring another top 10 pick, on the other hand, makes perfect sense. I would love to grab Reinhart, but not even the experts see a huge difference between Bennett/Draisaitl/Reinhart.
Coming away with one of Bennett/Reinhart and potentially another top 10 pick Virtanen/Ritchie would be a great day.

How exactly do the Flames grab that extra pick in the top 10? What do they have to give that would make sense?

They have 2 seconds, Hudler, Wideman (with salary retention), Glencross (if they convinced him to waive).
Not saying it's going to happen, but I'm sure they are kicking tires. Like most people think, I think Burke is high on Ritchie and has good reason to be IMO (just not at #4).

Assuming we draft one of Reinhart or Bennett...

Trading up from 4th only makes sense if it is for the 1st overall and taking Ekblad.

You should always blame others for your own mistakes. That way you'll never do anything wrong. When communicating with words, using the proper words is highly overrated.

That dream moved one year later would be McDavid!

Sabres GM Tim Murray in post 1st round interviews admitted he had contacted the Flames and Oilers about trading down, but that was only to be completed if Reinhart was drafted 1st OA by another team.

Wow. I'm super happy with Bennett but Ekblad would've been something else.

Boomer trying to stir up ratings / viewers with crazy predictions. Sounds alot like we must pick Hunter from last year. Now Van wants to trade him as part of most trade scenarios. Good thing Boomer isn't the GM.

I had it between Reinhart and Bennett for who I would've picked #1.
I have a personal bias towards Reinhart but honestly preferred Bennett's game more.

We didn't have to give up anything else to get Bennett.
Considering the rumoured offers to move up, we made the right move staying put.

Honestly tried to go back and find the post's where I jumped on the Bennett train during the season. All I know is, this kid and this team were made for each other. The way Hartley wants the team to play the game and the way Bennett plays the game is a great marriage.
So glad they got the guy that plays the no nonsense "don't eff with us" ind of game that we watched last season. Still euphoric over this pick.
Nailed it!

Standing back and looking at the big picture from the combine until the draft, we see a series of events unfold:
-Burke's comments on lying before the draft, and doing so as much as you can to tip the scales in your favor.
-Bennett somehow 'inadvertently' unable to do a pull up at the combine
-Boomer putting it out there over the radio waves that, from his 'very good source' the Flames may be looking to move up to #2 (truth) and might be looking at Draisaitl as 'their guy'(underhanded devilish speculation to get the Oilers to panic?)
one has to wonder that this whole charade was straight from the mind of Burke, with his absolute uncanny ability to somehow keep the prospect he wanted away from the oily fingers up north and into the Flames' laps. Especially with knowing that Reinhart was a hot commodity in Buffalo, and that Ekblad was the favorite to go #1 by most scouts.
This script would certainly make for a great espionage thriller. Comes with free popcorn and a tinfoil hat.

The Flames put this out there so Edmonton would take Draisatl and they could get Bennet.

I was totally thinking the same thing! The fan960 guys have seemed to be used to groom the mood and language of fans more than ever this past season. There's a difference between being homers (which guys like Kerr especially are not), and constantly pounding the drum of "exciting hockey is more important than winning hockey, and by gosh aren't the flames an exciting group?". There seemed to be a gear shift in how the radio personalities were speaking, one from cheerleader to mouthpiece. Subtle, but different.
Yet, how can a media group owned by the Toronto maple leafs be privy to the plans of the flames entertainment group? Maybe the flames are simply becoming more skilled and sophisticated at controlling the information which goes to the media. Seemed to happen after Burke appeared.
