Interesting tidbits in that short article.

I get the impression that CBS hasn't really given it any thought. Frankly, I can't say that I have either. It would be interesting if they made the conscious decision to refer to the teams by location rather than nickname for games involving Washington.

As for the NFL's response. I think the blanket "we don't tell partners what to say" is smart. Freedom of the press, and arms length relationship is good. While the purpose for this specific case is good, I don't like the idea of a league dictating what broadcasters can and cannot say. The slippery slope is fast and steep on that issue.

So what you are saying to the George V married his grandmother? Queen Vic married Prince Albert (a german ) much like her own mother (a german).... Since Queen Vic married a german from the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, that meant everyone else going forward belong to the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha ...George V (queen vics grandson) changed the name to "Windsor" from his german sounding name of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha during the first world war to make his family seem more british than german, since his country was at war with Germany who was controlled by the Kaiser, which happened to be George V's cousin....which also meant the Kaisers grandmother was also Queen Vic

George V's son Edward VIII ... some argue was removed from the throne not because he wanted to marry a twice divorced american, because well he had a hard time disconnecting from his German roots and was a Hitler/Nazi sympathizer

Current Royal Family is very much German

The Daily Show set four RedSkin fans who supported the name up for an unexpected argument with some of the leading opponents to the name. Bit of a dbag thing for TDS to do, but amusing to see how it turned out.

Notable to me was the guy who said he wouldn't have worn his Redskins jacket if he knew he was going to be confronted with Natives who oppose the name. I like the implication of that statement - he prefers to show off his pro-racism jacket behind the backs of those it offends but doesn't feel confident enough to do it to their faces.

It stands for strength, courage, and respect—the very values that are so intrinsic to Native American culture.” The shifty-eyed hebe went on to assure fans that he will do “everything in his power” to preserve the team’s proud heritage
