Many people have pointed out why you don't go to the bench to get a stick. You continue to argue despite the fact that no one ever in the NHL or any other league above bantam AA would do this. The reasoning is that even without a stick you are blocking the shooting lane. The defender cannot just skate around you like a "pylon" because hockey is a contact sport and he would risk losing possession. The passing lanes open up but to leave your team in a 5 on 3 situation they weren't planning for would lead to a goal against more often then not.

Backlund looks like a different player, and the player we drafted. Looks like he is going to be a core player going foward, shows that patience with these young players will be key, not everyone is going to tear it up right away. Some guys take time to find their niche.
