Should mention that Hell on Wheels just keeps getting better and better.
Really looking forward to the next episode.

The amount of great shows on TV right now is amazing, don't think we've ever seen anything like it.

agreed. at first i was a little skeptical of Common being in it since i'm generally not a fan of rapper-slash-actors, but his character has become my favorite in the show so far. he did a great job in the whorehouse scene where all his confidence and swagger were shot down
the only problem with HoW is that it reminds me just how much i miss Deadwood. i always keep thinking how much better HoW would be if it were on HBO or Showtime, with no need to clean up the old west for network TV

Hell on Wheels isn't a network show, it's a cable show. It's done by AMC, the same station that does Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and The Walking Dead.
Haven't watched it yet though, like you said above, too many to watch. It will sit on the PVR for a while I think.

i know it's cable, but they still can't swear or show nip on AMC. they do show some pretty gruesome violence, but so do the networks with CSI

Mad Men has shown boobies, The Walking Dead dropped a pretty big "n-bomb" last week.

I think they choose not to do it. Not sure why. The swearing especially would make the show more intense.
But it just goes to show that you can make a good show without nudity and swearing.

not saying that it's a bad show without it, but it would be better and draw me into the world more if they made it realistic in that sense

OMG I had no idea Beavis and Butthead were back until last week when I caught it channel surfing. I've seen 3 new episodes so far, and it's just as funny as it was it's first go around. You always worried that comebacks like these can seem a bit contrived and are out there just for nostalgic value, but I felt none of that watching it so far. Just the same two idiots doing the same stupid crap they've always been doing.
Guess Mike Judge couldn't just retire after King of the Hill. And we get to reap the benefits! Heheheh...yeah. yeah.

Sons of Anarchy is about to finish off another (4th) great season, two episodes left. It has also now been picked up for a 5th season. Despite the bad acting of one, Charlie Hunnam (Jax), that is my fav show on TV right now.
American Horror Story is very very good, I have been very impressed by the acting and plot twists. I've also enjoyed Hell on Wheels so far, Colm Meaney is such an awesome actor just watching him is a treat!

one of the rare Star Trek actors who make me completely forget about their prior roles when watching them in current stuff. he's doing a helluva job with this show

I thought the 2nd episode was good, but the 1st and 3rd were underwhelming.
In my opinion, its a notch and a half below Boardwalk, two below Justified, and three below Breaking Bad.

I'd have to disagree with that assessment. I think Boardwalk and BB are probably the all around better shows today, but thats given the fact that Hell on Wheels is only 3 episodes old. Shows like that, with a strong history component, tend to take a while to get going and develop, I'd use Deadwood (a classic) as a strong example of that. I haven't seen enough of Justified to make much of a judgement, but from what I have seen I'd certainly take the acting in Hell over the acting in Justified, I also find the general plot in Justified to be nothing special at all.
If I was ranking the 4 shows you've mentioned, I'd do it as follows:
1. Boardwalk
2.
3. Hell on Wheels (given the potential I see for it)
4. BB
5.
6. Justified (given I really haven't seen enough to make a fair judgement)

I know you said a couple of times that you haven't seen a lot of Justified, but. . . .
And Hell on Wheels over Breaking Bad??? It's entertainment, and thus subjective, but Breaking Bad is at the top of the heap in terms of both acting and story all time, IMO.

almost the same. i managed to get through the first 2 or 3 before giving up. i realize it's a slow moving show, and i can appreciate needing a good buildup (The Wire), but BB moved at a glacial pace. i rank Hell on Wheels above it simply because i'm still watching it

Same here. The storyline seemed boring too. High school teacher running a meth lab? Okay. Sounds like a bad comic.
