Scotland Yard called in over Breivik's claims he met 'mentor' in UK

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011...nman-mentor-uk

Definitely sounds like theres more perpetrators behind these attacks. Breivik perhaps carrying out the killing, others conspiring with Breivik. This is just plain weird.

Not necessarily. It could just be some guy in England who is a hardcore opponent of Muslim immigration... For example, Breivik might have met this Serge fellow in London...

Doesn't necessarily mean Serge had anything to do with the actual attack. It's a long way from ideological to logistical support...

Are they still pursuing the second shooter or what?

There were numerous witness descriptions of another shooter on the island. There is even descriptions of the guy (white, dark/brown hair, lantern jaw etc.)

I don't believe Breivik acted alone, ...he ain't no Rambo.

Two points, the Island was basically full of kids, their age makes it almost impossible they would rush the guy under these circumstances.

Second point, it is the wack job that is claiming to have two other 'cells' in the community, but as he's a wack job babbleing about it this makes it virtually certain he is working alone and the other 'cells' are in fact his dog Brunhilder and some 12 year old living in Phoenix he emails occasionally who he met playing Call of Duty online, organised wack jobs don't boast about their co conspiritors.

I couldn't get the whole segment to play, and whenever I tried refreshing it it took me to another video, but I got that the gist of the segment was talking about how the media went all herp-da-derp over this being the work of Muslim extremists. Why is everyone getting their feathers all ruffled over that? Wasn't Al-Qaeda (or some other whack job sect,) themselves taking credit for the attacks?

I just had to share this excellent article discussing the US's coverage of the terror attack in Norway.

Quote:
Being in a sleepy Texas town when my home country was struck by a double terrorism attack was eerie. Following the story developing in American and Norwegian media simultaneously didn’t make the experience less bizarre.
I found the US coverage to be slow, riddled with inaccuracies and at times patronizing towards a nation still in shock. Almost an hour after Norwegian press reported that police had upgraded the death toll to over 80, CNN were reporting 17 dead. But worse: hours after it was clear that an ethnic Norwegian man was arrested, and those with local knowledge had surmised that Utøya was an unlikely target for Muslim fundamentalists in the first place, CNN and FOX still talked Jihad like it was the only show in town.
When facts about the perpetrator finally made their desks, a good disguise or a convert were immediately floated as possibilities, the willingness to jump to conclusions suddenly dampened by already having settled on one. In retrospect they’ve tried to hide behind the fact that someone on a jihadist online forum claimed responsibility. But somebody always does. Since when did we let an anonymous online forum poster, claiming to represent an organization nobody has heard of, set the agenda of all newsrooms in the world?

The right-wing extremist who killed 77 people in two attacks in Norway four months ago may avoid prison after being found criminally insane.
Psychiatrists tasked with determining the mental state of Anders Behring Breivik when he carried out the twin attacks concluded that he was suffering from “psychosis” — a mental state that could alter his judgement leading up to and at the time of the killings.
The two psychiatrists, Synne Serheim and Torgeir Husby, delivered their 240-page finding to the Oslo district court Tuesday morning.
Huh...

I believe it. Detonating a bomb from a distance is one thing but hunting hundreds of panicked children takes a special kind of crazy.

Being found criminally insane and spending the rest of your life in an insane asylum isn't exactly a walk in the park compared to regular prison. Punishment befitting the crime?

I don't believe that being locked in a psychiatric hospital now days is equivalent with what it was like in years past.

I don't think he's going to get water boarded and given shock treatment in an effort to get him well.

The only benefit is that he pretty much gets a unlimited term, hopefully he never gets out.

I'm sure that the families will be upset that he's going to be placed in a fairly benign environment though.

compared to most prisons in Norway, the asylum may be a tougher place to stay

They should deport him to a Saudi Arabian jail. He'd love that.
