I have a soft spot for the Cuban Lunch because it was my dad's contribution to our Christmas stocking for as far back as I can remember. When they became rare I hunted them down and surprised him a few years when I was older. I'd love to be able to surprise him again with one all these years later.

I gotta ask - is there anything more than just chocolate and peanuts? Seems like a pretty basic recipe if one were to do it at home. Even a plebeian like me can buy some chocolate chunks, temper it and throw some peanuts in it.
What I find funny is that even though that isn't made anymore, you can still buy these:
How these haven't been banned is beyond me.

I thought I had lost a family recipe for nasi goreng (brilliant SE Asian dish) but found a place in the middle of the Ogden industrial park that carries packets of the spices. This stuff is to die for:

I guess this is still available, but not near me, so I try to make it a point to stop at the restaurant in Calgary or Edmonton whenever I'm nearby.
I absolutely loved BadAss Jack's. My wife lived nearby one in Edmonton when she was going to U of A (before we were married) and we went every weekend I visited.
It was a glorious day when they opened up one in Lethbridge under the Wrapper Jack's name. Which was the same but only wraps, no subs, but really I'm sure it was just a way to get into communities that they deemed to be too conservative to be successful with the word "Badass" in the restaurant's name.
Anyway, I love the wraps. We stopped in Edmonton in May while we attended a wedding there and we had lunch at BadAss Jack's on our way to the ceremony. If I'm in Calgary, I'll buy an extra wrap to go so I can have it the next day.

Banana flavoured bubble tape. I had it once in 1991 and I still think about it every few weeks when I'm bored at work.

Is it just dark chocolate and peanuts as stated in the article? That is a delicious combination but there must be something else in there to make them special.

They were super cheap. At a time when other chocolate bars were 40 cents, Cuban Lunches were a quarter. That made a world of difference to 12 year olds hanging around the local Macs every night.

I went to Co-op yesterday to gather the ingredients for a banana parfait recipe I had torn out years ago from some magazine. But they didn't have Vanilla cookies. Stock guy said they didn't carry them anymore. Used to love those as a kid.

I think of all the things listed, the two that I miss the most are McD's orange drink. Loved that stuff as a kid and having it on sport day in elementry school. That was the best part of the day!
Tahiti Treat was definitely the next best thing. Can you buy that stuff anywhere now? Seems like a lot of stuff is coming back, maybe this will too.

The Szechuan Pizza at BP! It used to be the only thing I'd order.
On the reverse, I've had some Clearly Canadian drinks recently and they're just as good as I remember they were in the mid 90s.

I have also seen this at the candy store in Kensington. A little overpriced, but if you have the craving it’s probably worth it. I drank a lot of that in high school when our schools vending machine stocked it. Great times.

Careful, I've only found Tahit ian Treat. Tastes pretty much as I remember but it's a knock off.
Also, upon doing research, it contains Red40. Which is why it isn't easy to find in Canada. It's banned for possibility causing ADHD and Cancer...

When I worked in a convenience store Cuban Lunches were extremely popular. Easily top 3 for chocolate bar sales. People loved those stupid things.

Wild Mountain Spicy Chicken from Wendy's. I wish they'd bring it back.

I believe it was Tahiti in Canada and Tahitian in the States. Since it's only made for the US market now, you can only find Tahitian Treat.
