According to Boomer on the Fan 960 - he made some enquiries about this rumour and was told they are baseless!

Of course they're going to tell Boomer they're baseless. The Flames don't want the news to get out if a trade doesn't happen.

It did sound too good to be true. Maybe of there was only one or two years left on the deal a trade may be possible but I'm not sure how any team could consider three years of Brouwer on his current deal. Even an expansion team with management that had familiarity didn't want him. He's pretty close to Wideman untradeable territory.

Hey Troy, buddy. I didn't mean it like that. How much weight did you lose again? Best shape of your life you say? You got this man.

We good?

Yeah Boomer denying it doesn't really mean anything. I'm sure Treliving is looking hard at trading Brouwer. It would be silly for him not to be, but with a full NTC they might be out of luck if Brouwer doesn't want to move his family.

Not sure why anybody believed this rumour in the first place. It made no sense on the timing of rumour. The flames would not have waited until the end of camp to start shopping him. Considering they were giving their youngsters first crack at Bennets line, and if that failed going after Jagr, there was a good chance he would be highly paid 4th liner. They would have known this plan months ago.

Same could be said if Brouwer asked for trade. He would not wait till end of camp. He had to know going in that at best he would get 3rd line duty. Even then he must have heard the Jagr rumours. Brouwer going into camp probably knew it was a 50-50 he would end up on 4th line. He would not wait that long to ask for trade.

I am fairly certain the Flames haven't waited until the end of camp to shop Brouwer. Their willingness to trade him is not the problem here.

Dion can play LD on the third pairing. Sens have to retain salary though.

I don't see how they could possibly move that contract. He's going to have to adapt to a 4th line role with the ability to move up in the lineup if necessary.

And GG is going to have to treat him like a 4th liner. That's more what I'm worried about, deferring to him and playing him more than he should.

GG had zero issues playing Brouwer on the 4th line last year and limiting his minutes. The only problem was the PP time he gave him.
