Honestly that would have been a stupid penalty to call.
The player clearly just didn't hear that the whistle had blown, and was resetting the ball for the goal kick.
Ref got it right. Not like there was a Munich player anywhere close to the ball or even trying to protest the call in real time. A player passing the ball to a teammate who then grabs it to reset the free kick happens all the time.
The foul on Saka to me was probably a better penalty shout. I don't think Saka altered his path considerably to draw the contact.

Yeah. Consider something like a throw in, a player will pick up a ball, walk behind the line and throw it onto a pitch underhanded for another player to take the throw. Technically, that ought to count as a foul throw in and change possession, but the refs never call it. They just let the next player attempt a proper throw in.
That hand ball is similar to me, plus the whistle confusion. Would have been really harsh.

It had absolutely no impact on the game, which should always be the judge for something like that.
Had Kane been pressing Gabriel and he picks up the ball then sure. But there was absolutely no advantage to Gabriel picking up that ball and resetting the goal kick.
Would have been a ridiculous penalty that would have impacted the game way more than not calling it did. Especially since the whistle was a bit unclear, and the whistle and pass to Gabriel were simultaneous.
The fact that Bayern made as big a deal as they did about it was embarrassing IMO.

Leverkusen won the Bundesliga for the first time in their 120 year history today. Incredible season. I want to see them go undefeated now.
And I think it’s become pretty obvious what needs to happen now. For England to win the Euros they must leave Harry Kane at home. Kane ended Neverkusen, he can do the same for England.

Granit Xhaka wins the league the same day Arsenal likely lost theirs.
But I'm happy for him.

This has been one of the best knockout rounds ever. Araújo wearing big goat horns, pretty much single handily costing Barca the tie.

Just watched highlights from today; couple insane matches!
They only showed the red card quickly; was it a fair call or ref messed up?

Clear call, and I detest PSG.
Best thing that ever happened is they got rid of away goals and opened up the game.

Yeah it was a no doubter since he was the last man. The funny thing about it is had he fouled him in the box they would have conceded the penalty, sure, but would have kept the man. Seeing as PSG had been pretty well outplayed the whole tie before the red it was just a needlessly stupid mistake. Even if they score, on a penalty or without it, Barca still ahead in the tie. Brain dead moment really.

Nowhere near as compelling as last week so far, but we'll see what the second half has. Madrid and Arsenal probably feeling better, City and Bayern struggling to create anything decent.

Well that's pretty much the 5th CL spot gone for England. Madrid surely pretty huge favorites now, but selfishly hoping for a Klassiker final since I'll be in Munich that day.

Lots of great storylines here. Bayern Real grudge match with Davies transfer tussle ongoing for us Canadians. And then a potential PSG-Real final with the Mbappe backdrop, or the all german final would both be awesome. Even as a big EPL fan I'm kind of glad one of the big 5 aren't in the final four.
Is Alphonso injured right now or are Bayern holding him out due to the dispute?

not sure that matters anymore, seen many examples of a penalty and a red card

I actually enjoyed those matches. They both followed fairly familiar story-lines.
Bayern vs. Arsenal was youth vs. guile and that was a lot of fun.
After the 1st half City were feeding Madrid their lunch. It was pure 1-way traffic, but Real just beat them with experience.
I was stunned to see Magic Man Modric with such a poor penalty, but they made it through.
Obviously at this stage I want to see Bayern win it all, but I wouldnt be sad if Dortmund won it. Couldnt care less if Madrid wins but really dont want to see PSG win it.
In all fairness though, Arsenal put up a hell of a valiant fight that they should be proud of and City can eat my ass.

Davies was disqualified for this match due to too many yellows

I feel like losing a match where Eric Dier was man of the match is probably not something to be all that prideful about. Like on Sunday against Villa, Arsenal were pretty much useless in the second half, and despite this being the worst Bayern team in at least a decade, and with a lame duck manager to boot, Arsenal never really put Bayern under any pressure across the tie.

And all the English fans can just see that 5th place Champions' League spot vanishing before their very eyes...
