He acted like he wanted to sign to boost leverage elsewhere...Flames met all his demands and he still left for less money and a #### team.
Why do something special for him? I won't be
His name has been booed pretty heavily at various events around town...I think some of you are wrong about the general public. I was in a skate shop the other day and saw a couple "traitor" 13 jerseys.
If anything CP is easy on the guy. He is getting the fox treatment IMO.

The way he handled the days & hours leading up to free agency was rather annoying and left the team in a not so great spot. That said, I'm a believer in letting bygones be bygones and giving him a positive reception for his years as a Flame.

I hope his tribute video is 90s of him getting pushed around, getting beat in the playoffs, not backchecking and generally a summary of all the holes in his game. Maybe include some vids of him smashing his stick, looking upset, maybe that time he tried to fight chara and got clowned.
Then intersplice that with a video of a dog licking his #######.
I bet the saddledome goes wild if that’s the tribute video. No way we boo such an awesome welcome back.

He was a great player for us and deserves a tribute for his time on the team. Just because he didn’t leave in the best way doesn’t mean his contributions to the franchise should be diminished. If Tavares got a tribute from the Isles then Johnny will get one from the Flames

He screwed up his departure badly, but I do believe he had a lot of love for the city and the team, and I can't recall there ever being another player whose family members were so positively engaged as fans. On the ice he also provided more fun and entertainment to fans than any other Flames player since Iginla. I would think less of the Flames as an organization if they didn't do a tribute to him. If some fans want to boo him or jeer a tribute, so be it, but he deserves a tribute nonetheless and the team should provide one.

I'm not a huge fan of video tributes to begin with... especially for a guy who chose to leave.
He was a big part of the team for many years but 5 playoff wins was as good as it got...not a ton to celebrate. Every other franchise mount Rushmore player at least had a run. People will forget Gaudreau pretty quickly IMO. Gaudy is the Kent Nielson of this era.
That being said if you buy a ticket you are free to cheer or boo as you see fit

That doesn't matter. The team still made a tribute for what he contributed to the team

And was booed mercilessly
I'm sure they will do it, I just think they are stupid unless the player is retired or something

Or did his wife make a business decision for what she wanted? Everything I have seen in interviews from Gaudreau both before he left and after give me a solid impression leaving was not his desired outcome. We will never know.

I think the best argument in favour of a video tribute is that it would be one of the best highlight packages in Flames history. I'd want to watch that if I was at the game.

Johnny was probably the most exciting flames player I have watched live. Iginla or Kipper were probably the most dominant at their peak.
I get people are upset he decided to move on. But he had every right to. It’s not the first time a free agent has switched teams.
I think it would be pretty petty to not show him respect when he comes back. He did a lot of great things for Calgary.

People aren't mad he decided to move on...they are mad he acted like he wanted to come back, negotiated until the last minute, gave the Flames astronomical contract demands, and then when they met them to the T left anyway.
Honestly Gaudreau wasn't the most popular superstar player to begin with he was fairly polarizing considering the stats he put up. I think there will be a fair amount of boos.
If you buy a ticket you make the choice...I will likely be watching at home.

I'll cheer for his video tribute, those are some of the best moments and memories I've had as a fan. Then I'll boo him for the rest of the game

I'm going to get torched for this (I've said it before so I know), but I really believe Francis was right-Johnny's plan was never to sign here, and the same is true for Tkachuk, and the same will be true in the future with Auston Matthews. If Johnny didn't want to be here, that's perfectly fine, but at least Tkachuk gave the team the opportunity to trade him for assets. Johnny looked into the camera and lied several times IMO, then strung the organization along. All I can think about is how much better would we have done in the playoffs if our top 2 players actually wanted to play here? How screwed would we have been had Tre not been able to pull off the most miraculous trade in franchise history?
Sorry if this ticks people off, but I'm still mad about this situation. If he played in the Dome tomorrow with the Jackets, I would boo him. Not sure if I will have forgotten about it come January.

I wouldn't boo his video tribute, it's about class as an organization and as fans, but I wouldn't cheer either. It would be quite a sight if during the tribute, the Dome is quiet as the library. During the game, I'd boo him relentlessly. And I'd cheer loud and hard every time some one put him on his butt.

I don't think you will get torched too bad considering at least half of the fanbase agrees with you
it was in incredibly bad faith for Gaudreau and his agent to negotiate and make demands only to pull the chute when his astronomical counter offer was accepted by the Flames at the 11th hour...especially when his other offers weren't even in the ballpark and didn't include his childhood team at all.
Honestly the entire summer probably worked out for the best but no thanks to him
He left the Flames for dead, probably expected us to be bottom feeders after he left

Nah, people woulda been pissed if he decided earlier, too. "He didn't even let the Flames make their best final offer!!!!!!!"
And the whole Flames met his demands thing is an unsubstantiated CP myth. Steinberg reported it was a full day of 'grinding' after Johnny's counter. Did the grind end with Tree giving in entirely? Perhaps...but there are a ton of ways that could have played out. Hell, Johnny could have informed the team he was going to test the market, and that's what cause the Flames to cave on the remaining sticking points after that. Which is a subtle, but meaningful difference.
