Did twitter send out an email they were changing it to X? I never got one, but I might have opted out of emails from them. Or did the app just update without any explanation?
I want to hear from someone supporting Musk in this thread! Is there anyone who still thinks he's got his head on straight? Even though he's done some things the right or fringe right approves of, I don't really see them jumping on board his bandwagon, and they still hate electric cars.
No sane person really supports or loves Musk. I have his car and I think he's insane/incompetent and lucked out by buying and bullying businesses.

It just updates; no email notification but Musk tweeted it.
Nothing more than a call-out to retain his aggrieved, angry white guy audience. Anyone who's made a bigoted comment and gotten blowback (reputational or otherwise).
Maybe he'll pick one high-profile case. The rest of the schmucks are out of luck.
I killed my Twitter account and I only use Threads now. It'll just continue to get better, so I'm good with being patient. Twitter is so toxic in ways that I can't even explain or fully comprehend.

The incumbent app is always going to be tough to knock off, but Elon is inadvertently doing what he's doing to help with that. Still have my doubts that Threads ever overtakes it from an active user point of view, but we'll see!
I'd wager that's a graph of search phrases that include twitter, which would make sense as it would be a way to use Google to search for something on Twitter. However, Threads doesn't have that yet, or a web crawlable version, so all you're seeing is searches for Threads specifically, which you'd expect to be low. It doesn't say anything about the usage or engagement on the site.

Threads gained users fast because it was connected to Instagram. Most users checked it out and left, as expected. The user retention metrics will increase over time as the product improves. I heard a reliable rumour that user retention is already way higher than they expected internally at Meta.
I won't use either of these platforms (CP is enough social media for me) but some of you are dismissing Threads way too quickly. It's backed by the only social media company that knows how to make any profit, one of two if you count youtube as social media.
