The term warrior gets tossed around too liberally but it applies to Regehr

How old were you a couple years before the trade? Were you watching from the womb?

He is after all a hard working Saskatchewan farm boy. He still looks as fit today as his playing days.

The Flames thought he showed a lot through that process. He was nominated by them for the Masterton in his rookie year as a result.

One downside to the Oilers crappy year is it appears Maroon will be a rental player now instead of getting a 5x5 contract from the Oil
I think Nuge gets moved as well. Last member of the “big 5” to be set free.
Schultz, Yakupov, Hall, Eberle all seem to be doing fine since moving on. It took some longer than others but all realized their potential since moving on.
Hall superstar winger
Eberle top line forward
Schultz top 4 D
Yakupov top 6 forward
Nuge gets out now he will be a solid #2 or maybe even a 1b centre.

I don't think they can afford to trade Nuge. He's the 2nd leading scorer on a team that can't score, he's defensively responsible on a team that can't keep the puck out of their net, and he's a center.
I think they'll choose Nuge over Maroon & Strome - the latter two will be traded at the deadline.

To justify the Draisaitl contract they ultimately want him playing Centre even strength. Nuge at $6M as a number 3 centre makes no sense. There are rumors that he is currently being shipped and several teams are interested.
I could see Chia excepting a lesser package of a Dman and winger

What about Hopkins for Kane? He will definitely be an upgrade over Maroon.

They'd end up paying Kane more than what Nugent is making if the intent was to re sign him.
Because I'm at least %90 certain Kane going to want an arm and a leg to live in Winnipeg Sr.

I can't see any way he would re-sign there if traded to the Grease. He would use McJesus to pad his stats so he could get a boatload of money somewhere else while laughing and giving Chia pet the finger the whole way.

Hopefully they trade RNH for Kane and then Kane helps them push for 9th in the West and leaves Edmonton as a UFA in the off season.
That would be beautiful.

Is Chia's goal to trade away any player that has any remote value?
What happens when there are no more players that have any value left except McDavid, Draisaitl, and Talbot?
I guess I don't understand trading away all the somewhat useful players that score points for defensive scrubs.

How much do people think Nash will cost next year? I was just playing around with potential lines for next season and maybe he will sign a 2 year deal, $3 mil a year..
Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland -- Hopefully they finish well
Tkachuk-Jankowski-Nash -- The size and grit would be amazing
Mangiapane-Backlund-Frolik -- Bring up the kid and hopefully he becomes a solid 3rd line player with scoring ability
Hathaway-Lazar-Poirier -- Energy line that can score
Veteran
Giordano-Hamilton
Brodie-Hamonic
Stone-Kulak/Andersson (split games with Kulak)
Smith
Rittich (Rittich groomed as the new starter with Gillies up the following season)
Bennett+Brouwer for picks

With the way he is playing.. Talbot might not have a ton of value either. Which teams even need a goalie?

When they run out... that's their team. Their cap structure with the players they have is built around sending everything of value out of town not named McDavid and Draisaitl. No doubt they will be pulling a Chicago/LA cap move within the next few years... Lucic will become allergic to hockey equipment and go on LTIR.

No I agree he isn't wrong. Just strange hearing a high schooler talking about Reggie's speed years before a 2011 trade.

When I think about guys that "need a change of scenery" to succeed it always seems like it's players from opposing teams. I always just assume that Calgary is such an amazing place to play why would anyone want to leave?
I'm starting to feel like Sam Bennett might just be one of those guys. The truth is he's not the only one in recent memory, Granlund and Baertschi have both looked much better in their new digs.
Even if it's just as a rental, I might be willing to move Bennett as part of a deal for Evander Kane at this point.
