Laryea, Buchanon, Hutchinson and subbed on Kone were notably good.
Unlucky to not get the draw in the 2nd half

Are any of the injured players hopeful to return for the remaining qualifiers? It would be good to get some fresh legs for Sunday.

What a shame the guy is buried and not playing right now. Hopefully his club roster opens up for him next season.
Also of note, Laryea used to be the guy getting into the tussles and taking the dumb yellows. It still happens here and there, but he has WAY more maturity and emotional control compared to earlier in his career.

tough result, especially due to that red card...honestly, people need to be carded after games when they fake it like that...its the only way to stop that BS
Canada was fantastic in the second half, even down a man...so many chances, I just thought they were destined to get the draw...
Crowd is going to nuts on Sunday...looking forward to it.

Even then it would be worth it if you win the game. VAR needs to be applied so they get it right and apply/reverse penalties in real time.

Last night's game seemed more egregious and effective than most recent soccer games I've watched.

These are issues that soccer refuses to address. the running clock and adding another ref onto the field. So much time is wasted that soccer is pretty much a 70 minute game. VAR is a good step but not enough.
Yesterday you could see that the ref was fussy, wanting to be involved and calling everything. Sometimes you would see the attacking team get 3 or 4 fouls in a row and move 20 yards. Kaye was on a yellow, he was hot, he plays on the edge. The Costa Ricans with their experience knew this, knew the ref was fussy and got Kaye into a situation where the ref was conned.
Herdman should have taken Kaye off. If not after the VAR review, then after Kaye lunged into another Costa Rican player before the incident that got him sent off.

Kaye just should have gone nowhere near touching that guy. He was making a decision for himself, not his team, and those will cost the team results at points. That stuff just needs to be gone from their game if they want to take it up another level.

Going to be below freezing in Toronto today. There's been a fair bit of snow already and possible it continues during the game.
We've had warmer weather for the past couple of weeks until literally today. So will be another icebox game.

The Solomon Islands defeated Papua New Guinea in the OFC semifinals earlier today. New Zealand play Tahiti at 11:30. Final is on Wednesday. The winner plays CONCACAF 4th place in the playoffs.
I mention this because when this all started, we would have all been happy if Canada was still in a position in the last window to finish 4th to be able to play one of these guys. The fact that Canada can clinch a World Cup ticket today with a draw and with 1 game to spare and avoid these guys is truly incredible.

What’s the pot 3 situation? Or is that dead now with the loss to CR?

It's not dead but it's more difficult. Tunisia passed us with their first leg win over Mali.
(I'm going to show you my programming skills haha)
IF Canada wins both their final games
THEN IF Tunisia lose or draw in the 2nd leg
THEN one of the following has to happen
- Portugal does not qualify
- Nigeria does not qualify
- Morocco does not qualify
- USA finishes 4th
- Senegal wins or draws but Egypt qualifies
ELSE
Two of the above has to happen
ELSE it gets more complex and probably in Pot 4

Canada is a huge favorite to get all three points today, so in keeping with the thread, I'm going to go ahead and predict a 2-0 loss to Jamaica at home today.
Using their usual unsporting tricks of trying to freeze the opposition into submission, Canada will be surprised when Jamaica come out blazin' and take all three points in a match that means absolutely nothing to anyone. What a shame to see Canada limp over the finish line like this after such a great start to the campaign.

Considering Costa Rica and USA play each other later this week, is there any scenario where Canada does NOT qualify?

Costa Rica would have to win today away to El Salvador. They would then have to beat the USA in the final match. They'd have to make up an eleven difference over Canada, meaning if Canada were to lose their final two matches and Costa Rica were to win theirs, Costa Rica would still almost certainly not have enough goals to beat us on the goal differential tiebreaker.
They've also only scored nine so far to Canada's nineteen, so even catching up on total goal differential would mean Canada would own the tiebreaker on goals scored. It is almost statistically impossible for Canada not to qualify.
In addition to all of this, Costa Rica beating the USA would mean that the USA would need to beat Panama by five goals today to beat us on the tiebreaker. There's simply no way Canada doesn't qualify today, even with a heavy loss.
