I'll honestly be surprised if Parekh isn't a legit Calder candidate this season. He's ridiculously good, and while his defensive game will probably need work, I have no doubt he will put up offensive numbers and that's what influences theses awards the most.

I bet no matter how bad defensively he will be, he will not be a windchill night in Edmonton in February... -38
Inzayne is the real deal!

Let's flip that a bit not to demean Raz.
No matter how many defensive struggles Zayne has this season, he will still be immediately better than Nurse/Bouchard.

Raz gets no reprieve after his playoff performance against the Oilers.
Last link to that monstrosity.

With Giordano, Markstrom and soon Andersson gone I can't wait to find out the next player we are diametrically opposed on!

Are you being obtuse? I loved Giordano! He was my favourite Dman when everyone on here was worshipping The Dion. Just not in his last 2 years here because of his inept PP play and his disregard for Tkachuk.
You forgot Lindholm. He was terrible when it mattered. and how can anyone defend 1st shot Mark after the Oiler's playoff series?

I'm being obtuse because I didn't discern that you liked Giordano before hating Giordano when pointing out you didn't like Giordano?
Ok ...
But who's next? Who are the lead candidates to dislike when I don't see it?

Giold was never brought up by me until his last 2 years here. Prove me wrong!
and once again Gio the man and ambassador was one of the best the Flames have ever had. I wish he would come back to the org.

Do we have any recent examples of D breaking into the NHL as as a teenager? Owen Powers did it as the 1 OA. Korchinksi did in his first season, but bounced between the AHL and NHL last season. It happens, but its really rare. Even rarer where it turns out for the better.
I don't think its as much of a certainty as some suggest that Parekh is in the NHL next season. Another season in the OHL isn't going to hurt him. Burning a year and rushing him to the NHL might.
|
I posted it in another thread but I think Schneider from the Rangers (selected 19th OA) is a good baseline. He is now 23 and finished his 4th season but his first season was at 19 years old and he played 43 games.
Looks like Guhle (MTL) had a similar on ramp of 44 games in his 1st season as a 20yo. Harley (DAL) had 34 games in 2021-22.
Sanderson (OTT) is a bit of an outlier where he played 70 games in his first season as a 20yo.
If I were coaching Parekh, my plan would be to get his 9 games in and see if he struggles (expecting he won't) and then aim for him to play half the season but with the runway for him to play most/all of the season if he shows he can handle it.
As for the left side, I would be putting that through the blender often to see who rises to the occasion. I would love to get to something like this:
Kuznetsov-Weegar
Bahl-Parekh
Solovyov-Pachal
Not that I think Kuznetsov is a top pair guy, but if Weegar is so good that he can make Hanley look serviceable as a top 4 guy after claiming him from waivers, then perhaps Weegar could do that for Kuznetsov or Poirier too.

Hell effing yes. That was the most important playoff series since the 1991 against the Oilers. More important that the 2004 cup final.
Yes I hate the Oilers more than 99.9% of the people in here. These past 2 years have been SO great! Thanks Sammy and Matty!

Nah, you directly blamed him for the team having no success while he was captain.

Who is former London Knight Austin Elliot signing with? Undrafted in 2024, follows up with one of the most insane goaltending seasons of all time (statistically).

I ran into him at Stampede on the weekend, what a great dude.
Much taller than I thought he'd be. He's also a bit of a unit.
