Cool.
Are you debating that Darryl Sutter isn't one of the greatest coaches ever? (Who absolutely deserved to be fired)

If you're saying he deserved to be fired then why is it relevant that he was one of the greatest. That's where the logic fails.

Assuming there would be no chance the Hawks aren’t on Backlunds M-NTC, but what another great mentor for Bedard for a year and likely the Hawks could recoup a 1st at the deadline.

Interesting to compare the kadri signing to RoR.
Makes you realize how big apf a #### up it was.
Obviously different offseaaons and purse strings were a bit tighter this year but still.
Both players drafted in same year, around .7 production over their careers and stanley cup winners. RoR was a legit 1st line center at one point and won a selke though.
We paid a 1st to sign kadri 7x7.
RoR 4.5x4.
Just terrible.

Every coach in history, even the greatest ones, get fired. But you know that. To debate that he is not one of the greatest coaches ever is silly, but given how purposefully obtuse and pedantic Calgarypuck has become, does not surprise me.

Kadri picked an amazing time to have a career year and playoff run. 100pt pace and point per game playoff run to the cup put him in a great spot.
Nashville is also a desireable market in a location with no state tax and a nice climate.
The Kadri contract is a massive blunder when you look one year later and this team has a new GM, coach and missed the playoffs.

Does no one believe that Kadri can bounce back this season? Just wow.
- Short offseason
- New team, new city
- Didn't get along with the coach
Still put up 56 points....I'm sure he can find another 10-15 points in there somewhere this upcoming season.

The guy had his third greatest season. Is it possible he has his second greatest season ever next year as a 33 year old? Maybe

Things happened the way they did but the Flames definitely would have got Johnny to sign had they given him what he wanted the summer before. Problem was he was coming off 2.5 seasons where he played around a 70pt pace and showed significantly less defensive ability than he did in his contract year. I think it is almost a certainty the Flames would have been able to get an 8x9.5M deal done in the summer of 21 but at the time I get why they didn’t especially since they thought a deal was still there to be done before he hit free agency. Ultimately Johnny did what many thought he was going to do and signed out East.

A couple trade proposals by looks of positional need by some teams,
To NSH:
Noah Hanifin
Dillon Dube
To CGY:
Dante Fabbro
Cody Glass
Joakim Kemell
Fabbro has a decent cap hit and is an RFA after this year. Glass would slot nicely as a 3rd line center to replace Backlund. Kemell is a really nice prospect you appears to have one good hands.
To STL:
Noah Hanifin
Adam Ruzicka
To CGY:
Pavel Buchnevich
Jake Neighbours
Get a top line forward and really good prospect.
To DAL:
Noah Hanifin
To CAL:
Wyatt Johnston
Ryan Suter
Johnston looks to be a potential 1 center. Suter can call Mike Smith to get the injury protocol for LTIR and never suit up for the Flames
Probably dreaming on these a bit but fun to speculate.

Nope. There are ALWAYS injuries with goalies.
In the summer, every team has a full roster of guys. But then injuries start happening, and goalies become more and more valuable. The time to trade Vladar (unless someone makes an off you can't ignore) is mid-season, as more and more goalies hit the infirmary.

It literally is just a function of how hard he works.
What is motivating him?

2023/2024 Trade Rumors and Speculation thread
If the Pens’ interest in Karlsson is true and the Leafs’ interest in Hanifin is true… I hope Conroy can try to play Dubas against Treliving.
Convince Dubas it would really stick it to his old team if he outbid Treliving for Hanifin. Saw a rumour on the NHL Reddit feed that the rumoured trade for Karlsson is Erik Karlsson w/ $9 million cap hit for PO Joseph, 2 1st round picks (likely lottery protected), and Mikael Granlund (probably to a 3rd team). Don’t know if the source is reliable.
As exciting as it would be to get Nylander… the better move long-term is likely to get a package more similar to what the Penguins are offering for Karlsson. If the flames could convince Hanifin to do a sign-and-trade with the penguins, you could argue he would be a better move for the penguins:
He’s younger, is arguably better defensively and has a better track record of staying healthy than Karlsson. Obviously he doesn’t put up near the offence that Karlsson does but his next contract likely comes in lower than $9.5 million per year and there would be no need for salary retention. Flames could still take back Granlund and not need a third team to be involved. The penguins would also save on a bunch of cap space (compared to Karlsson) this next year while Hanifin has a lower cap hit. If the Penguins are truly willing to trade their next two first round picks, I would love to see Conroy pull those out in a trade for Hanifin.
At the very least, he should try to get the penguins involved to push the Hanifin trade offer up for Treliving or any other GM to match.

I would trade all of these:
Hanifin
Backlund
Tanev
if it meant the return was Nylander (signed to a deal which I imagine would be somewhere around 8 years, $80M).
To Toronto: Tanev, Backlund, 2024 1st round pick (PIT), 2025 3rd round pick (PIT)
To Pittsburgh: Noah Hanifin
To Calgary: William Nylander (8 Years, $80M), Brodie (dump)
Announce Nylander and Lindholm extensions together. Slap the "C" on Lindholm, and we're beginning to see the re-establishment of the structure we had in 2021/2022.
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Nylander
Dube - Kadri - Sharangovich
Mangiapane - Ruzicka - Coleman
Is that enough going to Toronto? Toronto extends Backs and Tanev? They'd then hold 2x 1st round picks and 2x 3rd round picks in 2024.
|
That's way too much for the Flames to pay

I can’t see the Penguins moving their next 2 firsts for Hanifin. In addition, it seems Conroy has been given the mandate to return actual roster players to be competitive now. With that in mind I just don’t think the Pens have any assets of interest to the Flames.

I also think there will be something around Lindholm and Columbus, just speculating no source or anything. Wonder even if there is an opportunity for both Hanifin and Lindholm there.
